Hi Everyone,

I had the '94 940T checked out at a shop and the only things wrong with it is that it needs new rotors & pads and a new temp sensor.

I was looking at the FCP Groton website for brake parts prices and it seems there's quite a selection of rotors and pads, etc available. I would like to get good quality brake rotors that will last a while. My philosophy on brake pads has always been to buy the cheapest softest ones available because soft pads don't chew up rotors. They wear out faster but that's ok I'd rather go through a lot of pads in order to go through fewer rotors. This philosophy seemed to work quite well for me on my 240s as the original front rotors on Volvo#1 lasted over 20 years and 350,000 kms before I finally retired the car.

My question is what type of rotors and pads should I get for the 940 (if I do go ahead and buy it) ?

Here are some of my choices:

Rotors:

Original Volvo: $282 USD for all 4
Brembo: $142 USD for all 4
ATE: $158 USD for all 4
Zimmerman Cross-drilled: $242 for all 4

Pads:

Mintex $55 USD (full set)
Rofren $49.50 " " "
Original Volvo $82.00 " " "

What type(s) of pads & rotors does everybody like & recommend and which are not recommended and why ?

Thanks,

Roj

Get the cheap NAPA ones...they'll last longer than the expensive ones...

Ask Brad about Zimmermans... :?

Not to say the zimmerman's are crap, but I've had bad luck! When I first put them on they warped in a few months, had em' resurfaced, worked good for about 3 months and now they're back to shit!
Maybe I just have bad luck...
Anybody else had similar problems?

The last set of napa rotors I got worked great for about a month then one of them went for shit. I just replace the one and they've been bomb proof ever since. They are so cheap I didn't mind much. For that price you have to expect some inconsistancy in quality.

I also tried zimmermann cross-drilled rotors on my 87 240TI. I hit the road for Vancouver Island right after installing them with new pads, shims and fresh bearings. The rotors were all warped before I reached Vancouver! I've tested Zimms', Brembo, Volvo OEM and found the best rotors were the cheapest! Napa bargain-brand. I can outfit any Volvo for close to 100.00 for 4 rotors, and with PBR deluxe plus pads, good shims and proper bleeding they are the longest lasting and least expensive.

Brad
