Cool. Thanks so much guys for your input. Greatly appreciated.

Yes, I think I will keep it mostly stock, and just drive it. Good advice. Athal, I did have a ride in Darth on the Bils, and I remember it being rather painful. I think what I'll do is go for the Bilstein Tourings, try those out, and if it isn't much better, bring the ride height back up.

I hear what you're saying about the size thing Matt....I hadn't heard that comparison between a 240 and 740 before. Yeah, I have no desire to mess with anything else too much. I like how smooth it is, I just wish I could hear the engine at bit at least. I don't feel like there's an engine in the car. I feel like I'm riding a tractor beam in outer space. Think a bit more noise would be nice, and a bit more boost, but we'll see.

Okay....so the armrest is a quick fix? The one I have isn't stock? That's a relief! Hmmmm. I might hit up the PYP soon then. I don't need the cavernous space in the armrest of this thing anyways, as I hate junk in the cabin. On the highway its fine, but around town, I'd love to have something that is smaller or flips up.

Yup, the transmission grinds going into reverse every single time. I've tried double-clutching, choosing different gears first etc., but nothing helps. Dunno if the idle is higher on startup, and that's not helping or what. An oil change there would be a good idea.

Inspection is tomorrow, so hopefully that goes well. How is changing struts on these things? Same as a 240?

Congrats on the new car Jim! Wow, you've got quite the fleet then. For sure, I'll think of you if I decide to sell. If you find me a sweet 240, I'd definitely consider a trade. But there's been a ton of interest in this car already.....so yeah, selling shouldn't be a problem should the time come.

Struts in a 7 are WAAAY easier than in a 2: there's no brake pipes wrapped around the strut, and no camber adjustment to screw up. Just be careful pulling out the ABS sensor and you're golden.

Edit - grab a sedan rear sway too, and the brackets bolted to the clamshells - I don't recall there being one in the rear of a wagon. The brackets are super simple to remove too, also way easier than in a 240. Just remove the two nuts on each bracket (studs are captured in the clamshell) and the shock bolts. I'll see if I can find one at PNP this weekend when I'm looking for shocks.

Well, its finally time for an update. I've been working on bikes for the past while, and just finished building 4 different bikes. With those done, its now time to move onto cars. With the garage so full, I decided to build a bike rack in the basement, and moved 4 of 'em down there for the time being. I also put up some new shelves, and got some things organized. So now that I've got room, I've moved the Smurf back into the garage. Ahhhhhh...just like old times.

So begins project "Smurfout." Haha! Made good progress today. Some of the front end is off, alternator is out, as is the intake manifold and the head which are going to Craig. More to come soon. Also note the timing light sitting on the YROG!

I must admit that this makes me sad - the Smurf will be missed. All will be forgotten when the Yellow Monster wakes up from her rest.

Yeah, I hear you. I was second guessing all this as soon as I brought her into the garage. She looks so good from certain angles, that I forget why I'm getting rid of her. Sigh. It sucks. I'm still really torn, but I'm going ahead with all this. And yes, once the YROG is driving, all will be well.

The 740 needs some work and I want to do an M46 swap in it so it needs to be off the road for a bit. An '88 244 came up and the guy selling it, while being nice enough, advertised it as needing work to be drivable. His mechanic told him it needed ball joints, tie rod ends and rear shocks to be safe. From my bounce test the rear shocks are fine. We'll see about the ball joints and tie rod ends when I get it home. Might need an AMM too, we're not sure. The car is light blue metallic. No rust in it. The front end is sort of silver/grey. I think it's maybe old thin primer? No evidence of body damage. M47 with a bunch of gauges. Interior is not bad. 168,000 miles. Got it for $350. Gonna be an interim runner while the 740 gets fixed...

Back to our regularly scheduled programming... #-o

Looked up their website, any other details??? Did you just run lowering springs in the front and overloads in the back?

I have some LH2.2 AMM's in my pile from Pat Finn if you need one. Not sure of the model #'s most likely for Turbo though so may not be useful to you?
