So its looking like I may have to replace my clutch soon, and I was wondering if you guys know of a good shop to put it in. I got a quotre for a grand for bothe the part, and the replacement, is this a good price? Also, where could I go to buy a new clutch for my 98 v70 AWD?

And before anyone pipes up about reading previous threads about this sort of thing, relax!! Asking questions is the fastest way to find the info you need! I'd much rather have someone tell me about the parts, than to sift through pages and pages of text!

Thanks for the info!!

uhh... sorry but that kind of sentiment goes over like a lead balloon on pretty much any forum I've ever been on. I have no idea if the price is reasonable or not but Paul at Bert & Jack's is probably your best to compare prices although you didn't say where you got your price from. Andy and Jordan are both Volvo tech's on the board so they could give you some idea's on how high the dealer would be for comparison and possibly where to look for parts. FWIW Ellis Autodrome in Lethbridge who I use has told me they are doing a number of newer AWD Volvo work from Calgary b/c they are so much cheaper than the dealer. Oh and before you say you wouldn't have found any of this info by searching you're right, it just rubbed me the wrong way by you coming out and telling everyone you weren't going to invest any effort in helping yourself.

I'd like to think that nobody here will blow you any attitude about asking questions. We're here to help create a local knowledge base and support group, not to swing any E-dicks.

Try Burt & Jacks for replacement parts & service. If you need parts alone, you can also talk to Dale (Pylon on here). He has a wholesale account at a couple places and can get pretty decent prices on parts. I think we have a new member who works at NAPA too, though I'm not volunteering any services there.

No one swings e-dicks around here, becuase i have the biggest!

always pays to shop around, get a few quotes. I always start at the dealer for a baseline, Bert and Jacks will be your most trustworthy specialist, and if you want an independant, I used to work with the guys at Magnum Automotive (off mcleod and ~42nd).

You might get a good deal buying parts yourself, but check with each shop if they will let you provide parts, some will add a markup to your labor if you do (they make money on parts so some discourage customer supply).

Sounds like burt and jacks is the place to go! I was thinking about getting a clutch from an online supplier(autopartsway.ca), but if I could get one in town for a half decent price, that'd be even better!

I got my quote from euroworks, so I'm not sure if 1000 is a good price for the whole job, including parts. I've heard mixed reviews about euroworks, so i'd like to cover all my bases.

Yes check with the shop first before you supply the parts, many will not install customer supplied parts, others will install them but will not warrantee the work. I don't blame shops for doing this, customers would try to have us install the cheapest junk and then blame us when it failed.

$1000 - let's think about that for a minute. Down in the south shop rates are approaching $100/hr and a new clutch is going to be a couple hundered bucks and I'd want my flywheel surfaced and that generally goes for around $70 - 100. So that leaves 7 hours for R&R on the clutch. Sounds pretty reasonable to me (if not cheap and maybe they don't do the flywheel or replace the rear main seal or ding you after with add on charges).

I've just learned about E-Dicks, but I'm at work and don't want to google that for fear of what I would find.
