I was watching this ambient temp kit when it first went up as I thought it would be a cool thing to add to Lisa's car... NOT. It's up to $82 and there's still 4 days left on the auction, I'll bet it hits $150 - 200 when the dust settles.

I once sold (on ebay) a volvo fuel economy (ie vacuum) gauge to a guy in the US for $120. At the time that was $200CDN!

Sounds about right, have seen those going north of $100 on TB lately. Pretty rare items I guess...

P.S. Did you have a chance to look for those strut braces??

I've seen these and the analogue Fahrenheit gauge nearly touch the $200 mark! :o

So you missed the one (analogue and Celsius) that sold recently for over $400? It was a guy from Calgary that sold it...

Are there other brands of gauges that would fit the 52 mm opening in a 240? That $400 is what I usually hope to pay for the whole car, I think I spend too much time on TB...

VDO make the gauges...I suspect they are not unique WRT size. I do have a spare ambient temp gauge, the sender was pooched.

For real? #-o

To be honest, I stopped trawling eBay for Volvo accessories like last year purely because of the out-of-my-league prices. :(

Now I'm content finding a fog lamp dash switch or a b-pillar map light at the junkyard!

Very true! There's been a handful of GLTs (complete with dash gauges) for sale locally for less than $400 in the last year or so, nevermind the same amount that have ended up in the junkyard!

From what I have been reading 52 mm is a standard size, if VDO makes the gauge for Volvo would it be possible to find a new sender that's compatible?

I've been pulling stuff I need off a 122 parts car that's in my garage right now. I don't even know if I should admit this, but I cut the line that connects the dash temperature gauge to the thermostat on the motor. The car I plan on putting the instrument cluster into already has a working temp gauge, so I wasn't worried about it. At least not until someone told me how much those stupid things are worth.

I've made a few of the kinds of mistakes you only make once lately.

It's just a thermister as far as I know...I could work out the resistance range and make something work. Or just wait for the next GLT to show up and see if the unit is still attached to the bumper. Mine is not very accurate except around 0°C when the little red LED shows up. VDO made most of the gauges.

Sounds good, might have to hit up Buck's some time as Jesus is apt to show up before we see a GLT at Airport PnP and Chris will want to crush it right away b/c it's a Volvo.

I have bought a few VDO gauges from Dons Sports (egauges) in the past, and have been happy with his prices and service. Here is the link http://www.egauges.com/vdo_mult3.asp?Ty ... on&Units=E
I see they carry ambient temp set ups in a number for different styles, all VDO.

Sorry, I had meant to add that they may be able to sell you the VDO sending unit....

^ Thanks John, I was on their site earlier today. They show a couple of outside air temp senders for VDO gauges so it "should" be compatible with a Volvo gauge if they made them for Volvo.
