There was a 1990 740 GLE up on kijiji last night for $250 that the seller said he was taking to PnP this morning if it didn't sell. I notice that they have a 91 740 on the lot as of today and wonder if it's the same car and they got the year wrong. Is anyone heading there this weekend that could look for it and let me know what's on the lot for sure and if the hood is in decent shape? As you may know I NEED a hood for my 90 wagon, so if there is a 90 at Calgary PnP would anyone be available to give me hand swapping hoods. TIA :D

The 90 won't be out there for a day or two. It's not like it gets towed into the yard and up on stands. They need to "process" it. I suspect the '90 is the same one Athal posted here a few days ago. The '91 is out there but I didn't look at the hood; just under it. I looked at the front end but without putting two cars side by side it's tough to tell the differences. The '91 has an M46 so will have the LH2.4 flywheel for whoever was looking for one.

The '91 is charcoal...

Yup, that's MJ's, the one I posted earlier. Not exactly sure the cosmetic condition but I think it wasn't bad.

Arrgh, I missed that second post. Although bringing another car home might have ended it all plus the hassle of getting it home plus it never said it was a 90. At $250 it was barely worth it for the hood/hinges/core support, although I suppose the Dracos could have been flipped to cover the difference. Also I guess I'm used to our PnP down here, processing a car here means hauling it from the front in to the yard and dropping it in the mud.

I'll keep an eye out on their inventory tracker for when it actually hits the yard and go from there, thanks for the info so far. Athal, just for interest sake would the car have made it to Lethbridge under it's own steam? The ad said it was drivable but didn't elaborate on the lost compression.

I think so. He said he scoped the cyls and saw all the valves moving, but was getting bad compression on one cyl.

Thanks Athal, almost thinking I should have bought it and stripped it at my leisure at home, oh well...

Hey Darren, thanks I noticed PnP had a 90 as well. Really hoping to avoid the extra time and miles to go that far but appreciate the update on your end.

Weekend update: was up in the chuck visiting so stopped in at PnP only to find out they crushed the silver 90 the day before... Phoned Bucks in Sherwood Park to get their hours and found out they were already closed for the day but open Sunday 11:00 - 2:30. Headed over Sunday morning to find that someone had recently pulled the windshield out of the white 90 while jumping up and down on the hood in the process... #-o  Needless to say I was not impressed at the weekends search, would have been really grumpy if not for being up there already. So still looking for a hood for 90, it looks like the 90 Athal had posted must have been sold as it's not in Calgary PnP inventory after over a weeks time.

I'm sure the black '91 will still be out there...oh wait, was the '9 different? I thought it was just the headlights and grille...can't trust their inventory page 100% anyway. If MJ's car was taken in, it has to go out in the yard at some point, and it wasn't there 9 days ago.

^^^ From reading a number of threads on TB the 90 is a bastard child, other years will "fit" but won't look right with overhang/line up of the hood to grill/lights. Don't know how long they take to process a car at PnP, but I would have thought it would be out by now

Here's what I think...

The '91 at PnP looks to have the same hood as my '90 but I'm not positive on the taper of the "crown". The cowl is the same. I know this because I removed it and brought it home with me. I know the '90 hood does not match the wide e-code lights/narrow grille of the early 940/960 cars. I'm also pretty sure the headlights are the same from 90 and up (no fog type); it's the trim piece between the grill and headlights that is different. I'm thinking the 90 used the hood from the earlier quad-headlight cars so had a wider grille and narrower trim pieces. In '91 they switched to the later hood that had a narrower "V" and narrower grille. However, it's still got the "2-piece" hood/cowl combination, unlike the 960 and later 940(?) that had the hood right up to the base of the windshield. This leads me to believe that the hood on the '91 out there may be the correct hood for my front-end setup and that the red hood on my car...well, we can guess where that would belong.

Only one problem now...I don't have time to deal with all this before that '91 disappears from PnP. If one of the locals can grab it on the weekend, we may be able to work some sort of swap. The other issue is the hood at PnP is charcoal and it needs to be red to go on my car and I know anyone who can paint it is far too busy over the next few months to deal with it.

  I would have to set up an actual paint shop to keep up with all the requests. The fact that I am have that paint code memorized is not a good sign. See me in AUGUST.

I'm game for all of that, I think. If it looks like no one can grab the 91 hood I can try and get it, although I have mucho things I should be doing here.

Went to Calgary PnP yesterday as they just got in 2, 1990 740's. Grabbed the best of the 2 hoods as well as a couple of odds and ends. The one is a wagon which supplied a major PnP score, a perfect condition rear privacy cover complete with all the brackets. Took it to check out and the kid punched it in as a "spare tire cover" and charged me $5.00!!!  :D

Dale, I grabbed this hood as insurance in case your plans for a hood swap fall through or is delayed. I will probably start on some prep work and see about straightening my core support on the driver side so I am ready to go later, LMK how your plans are going so we can decide which way to go.
