Hey all,

I'm trying to find new rims in Calgary that will fit a 122. What I'm wondering is what you can get away with in regards to offset. +24mm (stock) seems unavailable on modern wheels.

Cheers

While it increases cost, offset can always be corrected with a spacer...

Am I trying to maintain the +24 offset with the spacers?

I think I know what I want in regards to rims, but they are zero offset (15x6.5). Does that work? The guy in the shop said that the extra width meant a zero offset was correct, but everything I've read or heard says otherwise.

Can I get away with a zero offset? Or does that put too much stress on steering etc?

Another question because for some reason i can't figure this out. What offset would be ideal for a 16x6.5 wheel?

Thanks

What kind of inner clearance do we have in 122's?

I spotted a set of 16x6.5 rims on kijiji that have a +28 offset but that would give me almost 4cm less clearance inside.

Lots of room. I run 17X7 with a net 25mm offset as does Craig.

It also depends on the car make. But I agree that it also boils down if will it fit the spacers and all. I have the same question as well and this discussion is giving me ideas already.

Stay away from the Volvo wheels...they are the WRONG bolt pattern for your 122. They are 5 on 4.5" and as common as ditch water. Some have used Jeep wheels, various Fords, etc. You can find a lot of aftermarket wheels to suit your style...or go with Minilites like everyone else.

I keep flipping back and forth on this - stick with 15's & get some VTO's (or Minilites or Superlites or Panasports) or get some spacers & have a variety of wheel styles to choose from.

Today I wandered around the Penticton car show...saw a lot of cars...& a lot of wheels! I Saw way too many Cragar & American Racing rims on american muscle...It got me thinking about the 'standard' 8 spoke wheels I always see online for old Volvos & MG's etc.

& if I want to upgrade my front discs I think I need a larger than 15" wheel to accomodate the goods.

You know VTO makes the Minilite-style wheel in 16 & 17" sizes, dontcha?

Edit - sumbitch. They USED to, I swear!!! They've changed their website and it appears that the 16"ers are now "coming soon" without any mention of 17" wheels.

My only objection is that everyone does it...not that it doesn't look good.

ya, but now I'm not too sure if i want that 8 spoke 'style' anymore...kind of leaning towards spacers & more wheel choices instead. Like Craig said, they look good but they're sort of the defacto style for these cars. & after I saw all those american muscles at the car show yesterday with their American Racing rims I got a little turned off at 'standard' style wheels.

:? Then again I'll probably change my mind in a day :?

I was talking with http://www.acmespeedshop.com/ (someone correct me if I'm wrong, they manufacture the VTO's now?) & they said 16" for Volvos with a +12 offset were coming soon.

http://www.spruellmotorsport.com/ quoted me around $230 a wheel for 15" Panasports (Spruell seems really nice to deal with, They were honest about the fitment of the wheels & when they couldn't accomodate my specs they said so)...a little bit more than the VTO's are going for. Minilites were the most expensive, at almost $300 a wheel.

VTO is also making 2 different 4 spoke wheels, a replica of the American Racing LeMans wheel & another called the Retro 4. The LeMans wheel isn't in our bolt pattern yet though.
