Hello Everyone,

I am a local reporter and I would like to write a story about Hypermiling. Would any of you Volvo enthusiasts be interested in talking with me? I have a lot of research available, but I have run into some difficulty actually finding someone to talk to, as the "face" of my story. You don't need to be a hardcore hypermiler, just someone who takes it into consideration when they are behind the wheel.

Thanks!

I know Raz use to do this in his Cobalt and we occasionally do this in the VW...but hypermiling and Volvo don't usually go together. Although I'm pretty sure me getting 21 mpg while sticking my foot into it really hard on the track should qualify  .

You should post this request on ecomodder.com and gassavers.org, guessing there should be at least one Calgarian there between the two boards. I think about HM on the road but wouldn't consider myself someone worth being the "face" of a story on the subject (especially when discussing the drive from Princeton to Hope  ).

It seems as you responded after all? Or were you going to point out how you hypermile all the time by making sure to draft your buddies when driving the Volvord so that you can get closer to the elusive 20MPG you've been dying to see?

This is so true ... 20 mpg would be a milestone worth celebrating

Hello everyone,

I'm still looking for someone to interview in Calgary about Hypermiling, and what practices they use. My deadline is approaching fast, and I would love to get something from anyone, as my department does not see forum posts as a credible source. :( Even for a short phone interview.... I'm starting to get desperate.

Please send me a PM, thanks!

Doesn't quite make it as hypermiling, but I just got back from a run to Penticton in the 86 740T. 460,000 on the clock, motor not touched except for a head gasket and valve lapping some years back. Full 3" exhaust. 1700K return, 119 liters. That's 7 per 100k, good lord, 40mpg imperial. I did keep it under 130 (often well under) and I think the winds were favorable... odometer is very close, checked with GPS.

Did 39.x IMPG (don't have the book in front of me) this summer in the 240, so slightly lighter car no turbo and doing the speed limit. Have got very close to 39 in a 740 NA on I-15, so I think 40 is possible but you would need the right conditions in a 740ti?

ETA: Nice work Chris. =D>

"Right conditions" included a decent tailwind for most of the trip home, and no feeling of urgency. Normally I'm happy with +- 8.5 l/100k on that run.
