Since the news broke in Greg's thread, I might as well come clean on the 244. It's a 1988 light blue metallic 244. Nothing special...M47, cruise, air and some gauges. I figured they would be PnP gauges but the owners manual has a page at the back that says the car was delivered with a 5-bar oil pressure gauge, a volt meter and a large tach as well as cruise control. It's a US car...originally sold in Falls Church Virginia. I'm not sure when it arrived in Canada but the manual says the 120,000 mile service was done in 1996 in Chantilly Va. The odometer shows 168,800 miles but isn't working. The interior is dark blue and is in pretty good shape.

My 740 needs a bunch of work and at the rate I get work done these days, it's not going to happen in a weekend, so I figured I'd grab this so I can get the 740 off the road. When the 740 is ready to go back on the road I'll sell it again. I paid $350 for it and got it that cheap because the owner was told it needed a bunch of work. Rather than dumping more money into it, he bought a new car. I drove the car home tonight and it drives fine. Steering, brakes and suspension seem fine. I'll get it up in the air and make sure everything is good. It has some running issues; maybe needs an AMM, but when it's working right, it runs great. No weird noises, just typical B230 engine noises. I'm pretty happy. I think I got more than my money's worth. No pictures at the moment but I'll get some shortly...

Nice work Dale! Seems like a pretty good score. If it was a wagon, I'd be begging you for it.

Dale, I have a "Bond" AMM, still attached to the top half of a 740T air filter housing but the mounting bosses are the same as a 240.

Cool! I think it's suspect. When I drove away from the guy's house, the car ran ok then started to stumble then had no power. I popped the hood and unplugged the AMM and it immediately ran better. I drove it home that way. It didn't run great but ran well enough to get it home. When I pulled it into the garage, I plugged the AMM back in and it started to run the way it should. Not sure if there is something the AMM does during warmup, but swapping another in might not hurt.

How much do you want for it?

^^^ Nothing, Pat gave me his Volvo stash (mostly 740 stuff) so it's free for the asking on CVC. If I had the energy I would catalog everything and post it, unfortunately it's all going with the parts car to PnP sometime this year for sure... If you have any other requests let me know and I will look, like I said it's mostly 740 stuff so anything that's LH2.2 common to 2/7 is a possibility.

I'll prolong the suspense a while longer it seems...

I spent a few hours crawling around the car today and am pleasantly surprised at its condition. The underside is completely rust free and clean. A few minutes with a pressure washer and it would look like a new car. The interior is reasonable. Everything but some switch illumination seems to work; even the seat heaters. The glove box door cover is loose but that's pretty standard for these cars. A small adjustment of the reverse lockout bar makes it slide into first as smooth as can be now. The shifter bushings are shot so the shifter is a bit floppy. Some new bushings should fix that up. Maybe a little shorter throw while I'm at it...

The AMM has me a bit perplexed. I cranked it and it fired on the first turn and didn't miss a beat. Idled smooth as butter. Likely helps that it was 15 degrees in the garage. If I slowly bring up the idle, it runs fine until I get to about 3000 rpm and then it seems to stumble slightly. It does rev higher with no issues though. I pulled out the AMM and sprayed it with some AMM cleaner. Not sure if that helped or not since it really wasn't misbehaving to begin with. I think someone has been messing with it though. The plug covering the adjusting screw was missing. I had nothing to lose so started playing with it. If I screwed it one way or the other it would seem to temporarily change the idle but then the idle would settle back in. Maybe someone can explain how that thing works?

I checked the ball joints and tie rod ends. There is a little play in the drivers front but I'm pretty sure it's a little bit of bearing play since the backing plate doesn't move, just the wheel. There is a little play in the steering but it looks more like the rack is a little loose. Both front calipers look a little damp (only enough that dust is sticking to them- not wet) so I'll have to watch that. Oh...and the winter tires on it are Dunlop Graspic. Don't know if they're DS-3s but they have a fair bit of tread so we'll see how they work. I can always throw the Hankooks from the 740 on it if the Dunlops don't work.

Crappy phone camera pictures coming shortly...

No shortage of those...

As far as the tintz- I already peeled the front windows. It was dark when I drove it home and with the windows up, I could hardly see out. People drive with this crap on their front windows? I drove it home with the windows rolled down...

Dammit, now your going to want all your 240 stuff back! I'll make you a deal for a SWEET exhaust system - only been on 4 -5 cars and it's not obnoxious or rattly at all...sorry I just made coffee come out of my nose while laughing

I think all 240's on this board need to run this exhaust as a right of passage.
