Had some issues with a wheel cylinder that had exploded previously (Actually, the little metal clip that goes between the cylinder and the shoe broke and bits went around in the drum.

assuming that's what killed the drum, and didn't notice until she finally split open braking hard taking it on a cruise last night.

No fun getting home, would explain why my pedal was getting softer and softer after something felt funny and I high-tailed it back home.

Now.... drums are NLA, but i happen to be working on a friend's ranger right now, and it's got a drum that seems nearly identical in size on the rear.
I've got a spare from him and am going to see if there may be a cheap option here.

Will report back tomorrow.
Was hoping to drive this thing out to the Okanogan Tuesday... will see.

I can't remember what I figured worked better on my car when I was working on drums - the Ranger or the Jeep. One was too deep and didn't work with the backing plates, the other was getting a little shallow IIRC. Too deep you can fix on a lathe.

Welp,

got'er done. not ideal, ended up using ranger drums.

couldn't get access to a large enough lathe to open up the centres of the drums, so had to turn down the hubs.
Would MUCH rather have opened up the drums. Wheel stud holes had to be drilled to 5/8. took some pressing to get them in.

drums are awful tight on new shoes and even with the adjusters all the way in, get some interference.
They're likely going to be burning in for a little while so i've been taking short 2mi drives back and forth and parking for a couple hours.

i can push the car around now no problems at a dead stop after 2 of these trips so it won't be long. Had two leading shoes on that side for some reason... now corrected.

actually stops pretty good on the drums.

speedo is wayyy out to lunch and 100mph is roughly 100km/h for me now. any idea how i buggered it up? and if there's an easy way to fix?

Anyone know if there's an off the shelf dust cap that will fit?
