This past summer, I was troubleshooting my rear lights on the 131. I took the lenses off, and discovered that the reflectors had been painted body color. I figured this wasn't very good light management. I thought that they had to be shiny at some point in their life, so I removed the extremely flaky paint down to the metal. I then started to use a metal/mag polish I had around the shop. That was a no-go.

I then got a tube of Autosol and tried it out. Within a few minutes of application with a blue shop towel, I was encouraged by the result and kept going. After all was said and done, and buttoned all up, the rear lights shined brilliantly at night. I am very pleased with the result! I should have bought stock in blue shop towels beforehand, I used up a TON. I thought about using a mop and a dremel, etc. but the tarnish came off so quickly and dirtied the towel, that I would have been changing mops all day. Plus, I had never used the product before and I wasn't sure of its result. Towels, tunes, a roller stool and a beer made for a relaxing couple hours.

Looks good...some of us have used aluminum foil tape to brighten things up at the rear of our cars. I'm looking at fabricating some stainless steel housings and either doing LED's or push in bulbs. The lights are very weak in stock form.

I used chrome trim tape (from crappy tire) with some success in the past.

A little related to the main post, I washed my tail lights in warm water and dish soap. My wife was a little against using the dishwasher. I then used Novus 1 and 2 polish on my tail lights and they shined up a treat. I use it on my pinball machine and it worked great, so I thought to try it on other plastics. The lights shine pretty bright right now, I hope to get a picture or video once the snow goes away.
