In late September, my wife Karlie and I decided to retrace a leg of the 1965 Shell 4000 Rally. So on a Saturday, we hopped on the highway and drove for 8 hours (Edmonton to Regina) in the 122. The next morning, we got up and followed the rally route back to our home in Edmonton - a solid 13 hour drive along back roads. The car was solid (although the exhaust fumes were pretty bad) and the route was pretty fun for being constrained to the Canadian Prairies.

I was pretty excited she wanted to do this and it ended up being an awesome adventure.

Read her take on the experience here:

Glad to see someone is driving instead of playing in the garage all the time.

That's cool an' all - but you came to Regina and you didn't even visit... :) Could have arranged a 122 meet with Dave and his car, or my V70R's... (or my Peugeot's) :)

*edit - Site came up - Great read. Definitely want to drive that route! Would love to do the same as a family trip... Be a cool way to go to Edmonton for sure.

Might be the perfect "Spring Thaw" type event for use Prairie dweller's longing for a similar driving event done in other areas.

Thanks guys. The Volvo saw a lot of action over the summer. About 12,000 KM give or take. Only broke done half a dozen times haha.

I'm planning to do a little drive like this in the late spring and I'll definitely invite some people for it. It'll likely start in Calgary and head south east towards Cypress then back to Calgary again. I'll keep everyone in the loop.

Sounds good, Dave. My car is in a zillion pieces but I will be there if it's back together by then.

A road / adventure trip in the Spring would be awesome - With enough warning I'd love to plan for something like that. It'd also have deadline to work towards getting some stuff done. :)

A big question before I plan the route. Who is OK with driving on gravel? I can stick to pavement if that's the consensus. But it'll be less fun ;)

I vote gravel - but that will also determine which car I bring. :)

Would love to drive out my 76' 504 for this if it was gravel.

I will have JUST painted the 122, but I would be okay with gravel as long as I can get some decent mudflaps working on it.

Rallyarmor on the 122 would make the Suby crowd jealous. I'd never pay for Rallyarmor, I'd go to Norwesco and buy a yard of neoprene.
