hey everyone havnt posted in a while but i have a question that needs some knowledge.
so yesterday i was out for a nice long drive picking up friends and whatnot, anyway when i got home and pulled in the garage and threw it in neutral i could hear a slight noise (like a bad bearing) only there while in neutral clutch fully released. noise goes away right when the pedal is depressed. also i could hear it most when i leaned over into the passenger side and put my head right next to the tranny tunnel. so my first thought was bad release bearing, but after some research could be bad input shaft bearing on trans? just want to know whats more likely before i pull the trans and do the clutch.
thanks for your time
car is 1990 volvo 740 turbo with m46 transmission, fluid in trans is new and i checked level 10 min ago all is well

Probably the release bearing.

Are you missing the spring pulling back on the clutch fork?

Should be hydraulic if it's the same as my 90 745T, although you never know with Volvo...

FWIW mine squeals on occasion too. #-o

Yeah, it's hydraulic for sure (very few 700s came with cable, though I had a cable pedal set for some reason or another) but it should still have a spring pulling the TOB off the pressure plate. Shouldn't it? (second guessing myself)

Hmmm, now I'm guessing, should know that but I'd have to look. My daughters 89 740 is cabled, but is NA vs the wagon being turbo. (if that makes a difference)?
