What is sensible to do on the intake side of the B280F using the
existing head and intake manifold?

I saw Ugly Duck's pics where the air box is gone and replaced
with a 3 inch cold cone ahead of the MAS. What is weird is
the throttle body on this motor has a smaller diameter than its
MAS. The air path after the MAS goes through reduction tubing.

Would a bigger throttle body and 3 inch air path all the way back
be advisable or possible?

Short answer: No, it won't do a thing.

Long answer: This engine is so choked down, equally, everywhere, that it will take a lot of work to get any sort of power from it. The Volvo cylinder head has these swirl ramps in the intake port, which would otherwise be too large for the flow from the rest of the system. The exhaust manifolds as you know are terrible. The intake manifold runners are long and small diameter for good low RPM torque, the throttle body isn't terribly generous as you point out, the intake tract has a nice 3" AMM but the rest of the system necks down and has a lot of bends. The crank and rod bearings are so oversized, as is the oil pump, that the engine uses up a lot of power that it makes just fighting pumping losses. The exhaust ports are TERRIBLE, and the camshaft has really short lift & duration figures. Fixing one issue only uncovers another.

For all the work I did to my B280, I didn't address the camshaft and the intake manifold. It ran better than stock, but not much. Put better cylinder heads on a small block Ford and the engine gains 100 hp. Better heads on the B280 and you gain about 10. It's discouraging.

Edit - by the way, that cone filter came off my car and the stock airbox went back on. I noticed no difference other than it getting quieter. Even the intake noise wasn't terribly pleasant, it turned out. Stupid delivery-truck-sounding, short-duration camshafts!

Haha. Good to not have to learn and unlearn on some of these more
common (well nothing is common knowlegde with this B280F motor).

The motor is running better today after its first oil change under my care:
or maybe I am getting use to the B280F anemia.

Rotella T5 15W40 and 1/2 can of Seamfoam. Run this for a 150 km and
see if it needs change again. Once it is cleaned out, T6. The other
1/2 can of Seafoam in the gas. The fuel filter is new, but I don't like the
buzzing sound of this 28 year old fuel pump.

BTW, the oil filter is in a really stupid place. I didn't believe what people
said but they are 100% spot on.

What are the differences between the B280E and B280F ?

The 'E' polluted more, but put out more power. What's it take
to get the 'F' to 'E' ?

All of it. Head, camshafts, compression ratio, fuel injection, ignition.
