Cant wait to see this one done though.

True enough. The only 700 series sedan that doesn't make me vomit a little as I look at it. It actually looks pretty pimp in my favorite volvo color...midnight blue on blue/black like matt's.

Well, James - you've got a shopping list then, don't you! If you see something (like the cams) that will wake this thing up, I'll totally make it worth your while if you grab it.

I'll PM JD on TB (wow) and talk to him about the other parts you suggested.

Matt,

The 264 that I got my interior from is still in the PYP, it is in great shape and the mechanicals are all there. Let me know if you need anything pulled.

Craig

Awesome project Matt.
If you need "goodies" from Eagle Primier there is usually one or two at PNP.

Time for an update?

Well the car's home, and after a week of gentle poking and prodding, it's chillin' in my driveway.

Everything looks surprisingly good. Sure, the interior's a mess, but I don't see anything that isn't fixable. I'm sure I'll need to come up with some random bits, and JD in Seattle is pulling a few things for me from his Bertone (like a glovebox), but it should come together nicely when I've got a few weeks to kill.

The underside looks magnificent. The floors are as solid as the rest of the car, the suspension looks straight & true, the exhaust is nice, and everything else looks pretty fine down there. The glaring problems were the motor mounts and the differential mounts: both destroyed. I've replaced the motor mounts with stuff from Valentine, but I haven't touched the diffy yet. I'm going to wait 'till I get the car into the garage for real, but I want to pull the whole rear suspension and have a look at a few options back there. Mostly in DIY poly bushings, but also in limited slip diff idears.

The brakes are all a bit gross & worn out, but amazingly all the calipers are free & easy to move. Not that they're going to stay where they are for long, but it'll probably be easier to get past an OOP inspection with the stock stuff in place.

As far as future mods go, I really need to learn to slow down. I've got a few pieces in my sights, but it's going to be enough for me to try and get this thing looking good, performing well, and on the road for next summer. Fortunately the pieces that I would want to upgrade are all in decent enough shape that I won't set up a chain reaction of modifications. For example, if the exhaust weren't in such nice shape I would be replacing it with something bigger, inspiring me to build a set of headers, which would justify installing the better heads, which I'd want to port and polish and rebuild... see what I mean? I'm outa control!

But damn, an M62 supercharger would look good sitting on top of that motor...

Well FINALLY...

It's registered, insured, and being used. Windshield went in on Tuesday, OOP happened today.

God, is this thing slow! 145 hp (at the best of times), automatic transmission, and 3400 lbs (plus driver) make for a pretty steady beast. Hopefully two of these three things will get fixed this winter - I'll leave it up to your imagination as to which two I'm tackling.

Aside from its incredible slowness, it's TIGHT! Very few squeaks, rattles, or otherwise. One little rattle from the sunroof that I've got to chase down, the driver door tends to shuffle around over bumps (only noticable by the weatherstripping making a slight chatter noise) and that's about it. The driveshaft still rumbles so I've got to pay attention to that some day, and there's the odd little bug that I've got to deal with as well (no 4th gear).

I think it's going to stick around for a while.

Yep, let the modifications begin!

Not really - this summer about all I'm going to do is to finish the stereo, swap over the summer tires, install the front Bilsteins & some stiffer front springs, and change out the airbag steering wheel for the Personal. It MIGHT get the front Wilwoods, but seriously it's slow enough that the last thing it needs now is better brakes. I'll have enough to do this summer without working on cars.

Awesome Matt, always good when the project car is in good condition and there are no bad surprises. This car has also made Craig very happy, he can keep up with someone  (sorry Craig, JK)

Bring it down to Lethbridge this year, it would be a great addition to the CVC Team entry.
