Anyone got a spare fuel rail around that isn't bent? I don't really want to fiddle with the bent/dented nonsense that I've got.

Still more cleaning and bagging. CC'ed the head - 54 cc chambers - should be able to do a proper mock up sometime this week.

do you know your deck height? do you plan on changing it?

I'll be mocking the block up to determine the deck height. There was little point with it all dirty. I'd like to get the squish right on this one. I'll cc the pistons when they get here and may stay with the stock head gasket if it will work. Are these engines the same as all the rest with pistons well down the holes? I'm guessing they are. The 530 head seems to have a lot of material shrouding the exhaust valve. I'll be looking for a better shape for that transition from wall to roof.

my b23e was about 0.005 down the hole, late b230ft poking out 0.003-5"

you'll have to check. I'd rather deck the block and use stock gasket than use expensive cometic. especially since I ended up replacing it twice in a month last time.

There's a kit floating around the world that comes to us from some kind folks on turbobricks.com. It allows you to install piston cooling squirters in your B2XX engine. Simple concept, and easy to do with a drill and a few skills. Here's how it goes.

There's a main bearing cap bolt with a hole drilled and tapped in the centre that accepts a crude fixture that holds a hardened drill bushing. This is used with an extra length 7 mm drill.

Image

You located the centre of the oil gallery by eye and then tighten down the fixture. A hole is drilled into the oil gallery and then a spot facing tool is inserted into the fixture to machine a flat sealing surface for the oil cooling jets (squirters).

Image

Image

Image

Then the same fixture is used to guide the tap and hold it straight. The hole is tapped and then you're done.

Image

Tada

Image

Takes under an hour to complete.

Very cool! I had always wondered how that was done.

Nice work :)

Are you going to run an oil cooler in addition to those nifty piston cooling jets.

Yes, the stock 940 oil cooler filter arrangement will be fitted.

I forgot to take the before shots...but it's a 90+ exhaust manifold.

After (still some clean up to do). I decided to just do what I thought it needed. I've not seen one quite like it before.

Image

I'm not sure what the best way to feed the turbo it exactly, but I figured a big sloppy opening is probably not the answer (what was the question again?).

I worked my way up the manifold as far as I could and smoothed out every transition.

Image

Image

Then worked mostly on getting the gasket match nice and working the upper part of the manifold and ensuring that the short side wasn't sharp.

Image

Next up is the turbo hot-side - where the plan is to continue the porting to match the manifold exit and not just hog it out, but create a smooth transition from the manifold shape to a single volute.

Thoughts?

No thoughts, other than you've got this in the bag.

Thanks Matt - here's the turbo. Took a few hours to get it ported and polished, but I'm happy with it.

Image

I got the waste gate ported as well, removing the sharp edges and creating nice smooth transitions from the collector to the port.

Image

I tried to create smooth transitions everywhere I could and tried not to just make it a big hole.

Image

I have no doubt that this will help, but I have no idea if it's "right". I'm also guessing that it represents such a large restriction that it doesn't much matter. It will spool well and should flow a bunch better at the top end. This is what I've read, but I've also read that the hot sides were cast steel…and it's cast iron. So you never know what crap is out on the internet.

Tonight it was the intake manifold…I just gasket matched it (funny how they're not even close to fitting). I also relieved the area around the injector bung. I also decided to just leave the outside unpolished, just for fun.

Image

Even though it's not a "wet" manifold, I left the insides finished at 80 grit (cross buff). It doesn't look like much, but there was a lot of material to hog out of there.

Image

I thought this just looked cool…trying to keep the air swirling?

Image

I also spent some time polishing up the outside of the hot side of the 15G

Image

Image

The rest of the engine parts have arrived.

Image

Hardware - nice and new.
