Small update. Pulled the motor back out and installed the roller rockers. Ill get around to setting them up tomorrow. It's a shame you don't get to see them after they're installed.

Picked up a clutch cable and shift fork today. Flywheel should be here tomorrow. Then things should get rolling shortly.

You did do a ptv clearance check with the new cam and heads ? you should be OK...but it doesn't hurt to check
If Matt cant find the speedo cable...here is the ghetto way, take the Volvo cable remove the inner drive and save the cluster end, splice the transmission end of the t5 outer cable to it,slide a foot long piece of hose over splice...a couple of hose clamps and push the inner through and your done.Of course your going to have to make sure you have the right length,I have this on mine...has worked for the past 6 years,so Haven't bothered to get the right one yet.
The Edelbrock carbs are nice, very simple to work with/tune.I have one on my other car..runs like a top.

I didn't actually check but the guys at the mustang shop said with this cam and heads set up it'll be fine. It's designed as a top end kit so you don't need fly cut pistons. The motor was in a crown vic for 160,000kms and an old lady owned it its whole life, no rebuilds ever so the deck was never shaved or anything. If I were to go with the stage 2 or 3 cam it would be a different story.

Hopefully Matt can find that cable lol it sounds like that would be the quickest and easiest route.

I set all the valves tonight and started repairing what was left of my engine harness.

I need a little confirmation on the wiring from the Volvo body connector (grey rectangle 8 pin)

This guy:

As you can see its seen better days. I'm making my own harness with a weather pack 6 pin (2 pins aren't used, I think 2 left over pins are for automatics, mine is a manual trans).

I found this is the 5.0L swap archive but my wiring is slightly different. The oil, temp, and alternator wiring all matches up but everything else is either in a different pin or is a different color.

Image

Now, I have a brown wire that isn't listed and I've already given my engine and harness away to a fellow Volvo enthusiast (for free of course lol).

just a thought..when the cable finally lets go in my speedo drive, I would definitely go gps.I bought one for my 760,
as it was easier than trying to make the electronic pickup thingy work with the 700r4...I integrated it into the stock location in the cluster, only requires a couple wire hookup, and the sensor sits in the middle of the dash.Works fantastic..even has 0-60 and quarter mile capability..and you can get any configuration of color, number style ,
and size of gauge..and no trying to calibrate diff gear/tyre size.

Well score one for the good guys - I knew I hadn't sold that stuff.

When do you want the driveshaft and speedo cable, Carter? :D

Does after 6 Friday work for you? I'm also free all weekend but I'd prefer as early as possible so I can get as much done as I possibly can. I heard some nice weather is on our way :D. Seriously though, whatever works for you will be fine.

Well another day spent in the garage...as well I picked up my custom drive shaft and speedo cable.

Painted my bellhousing and ran out of paint to do the tranny...it's not like you see it afterwards anyway. Ah well...maybe one day when I burn the new clutch out I'll paint it the same.

Image

Ford Racing's King Cobra clutch. Supposed to handle 450 ft lbs no problem. Pretty sure I'll be alright haha

Next I installed my new clutch fork and bearing and mated the two because there was no way I would be able to lift it up on my own not to mention I couldn't get the car high enough.

I did end up having to remove the grill and support panel that goes across the headlights and the hood release to gain the space needed. After 10 10mm bolts were removed I had 0 issues with space installing the pair. I hooked a ratchet strap to the rear of the transmission and used that to help level it. Worked ok for a 1 man job.

I installed a set of chrome BBK shorty headers before installing the engine thinking it would be near impossible to install after....I was wrong. it's actually not bad for space but it is a little easier to do before the engine goes in.

These were actually the EASIEST shorty's I've ever had to install. straight forward, no removing the steering shaft or putting bolts in tight holes before they go on the motor. Just plunk them in and tighten.

It's a tight fit, that's as far back as I could get it to go. If I have issues I might slot my mounts and try slide it further back to gain an inch or so.

That's about it for today. I'm wiped. More tomorrow maybe...

The funny part of that is before I did anything to the car I made a post asking about air ride and should have probably put two of my flame suits on...now it's a completely different story.
