^^^ Absolutely agree with Matt - Sexy AF.

I have to ask though - is the PPG epoxy primer coverage so thin that you can see the difference of sand blasted steel VS sanded smooth steel?

I was always under the impression blasted steel was a great surface for primer once cleaned? I've never worked with the stuff - but want too eventually.

Quite the reverse. The finish left by the blaster was fine, but inconsistent on the inside of the frame rails and a few other areas that were missed. I now know why the powder coating from these guys is hit and miss...their prep is hit or miss. You'll see when the video is out. The other problem is to clean it, it basically shreds the paper towels and drinks up the wax and grease remover. So if you've moved the frame and have finger prints on it and had to drill and tap a few holes, well, I wasn't sure I could get it completely clean. I also needed the blasting to catch the areas that I could not sand, but I thought the surface was a bit rough. So the sanding was mostly just knocking this down. The good part was that inside bolt holes and places I can't sand was clean and ready for paint.

The industrial blasting isn't like the surface you get from a bead blasting cabinet - it's got tooth.

I feel the same as you, Rabin, but when Craig does something contrary to what I do, I question my methodology rather than question him.

I use a place in town that uses 19mm crushed gravel as blasting media, or that's how it seems when I blast an axle or a wheel. I'm always a bit worried about the thinness of the topcoat at the peaks of the rough surface the blasting leaves, though I never do anything as insane as sanding it afterwards, LOL. I just hose it out with brakleen and blast it with air really good, maybe wave some flame at it to degass it, and paint. With predictable results.

Here's the latest installment - this is how it actually all shook out.

While the frame is sitting on the welding table, it seemed like a good time to get the front brake lines sorted out. There will be lots more of this to come. It takes me a long time to work with stainless lines. They don't bend easily or work easily. So these two lines were an entire day to sort out.

Not including the patterns. I make those from welding wire.

Image

It's important to sort out the routing and get the patterns right before touching the stainless. You really get just one shot at getting it right.

Image

Then I started to get these lines committed to stainless. It's fun as the patterns really do help get the 3D angles right when using the bender. These are also bubble flair on one side and the other has to be double flare...so with the AN fittings at the brake master, that's the complete trifecta of flare options on this car. Good thing I've got the tools to do all of these.

This little transition took a full hour to get right...stainless won't bend like steel or Cu-Ni lines. it's either right or it won't go.

Not sure what's going to make it into the next episode - I should probably get a little more done this week to finish that off.

Finally posting again  , still way behind on the videos, but as always everything looks amazing. The brake lines on the epoxy coated frame is art. =D>
