Have you somehow managed to clone yourself, and have Craigs #3, 5, 9, 12 and 14 polishing all the wee nuts and bolts?

Very, very nice Craig

You lift system is close to mine, I used the same track system but installed a 4"x6" beam above the bottom of the roof trusses, one end supported by the front wall, the other end I "T'ed" to another 4"x6" sitting under the track beam. Again one end supported by the side wall and the other end I use a removable post in the centre of the garage. This way there is no weight on the roof trusses.

I also bolted the track through the beam every 12" with steel plates on the top of the beam

I know, total over kill, but Joan would not understand if the garage roof fell in

I was thinking that it would be a good thing to get some 2X4's to support the sides of the rafters...they were doing some flexing when I lifted the test engine. I could just put them up around the outside of the car to stiffen things up a little.

As for the obsessive polishing, even I find it a little silly, given that this is my street car, not a trailer queen. Once polished, the stainless should stay that way for a lot of years and it only takes a couple of minutes per fastener on a treated sewn buff. I wish I had a sisal buff...it would go much quicker.

Hey Guys,

I've got to be quick as my birthday party is about to start...I'll let the pictures do the talking.

Here we go:

Setting the rings in the bores.

Image

Greg cleaning some parts.
Image

Crank installed.
Image

A little surprise.

Image

Putting the pistons in their new home.

Image

Hey, those piston's are coming out of the block...SQUISH.

Image

Took the whole day to put it all together with checking all the clearances and cleaning etc. Took forever.

Craig

Same oil can I have, bought it because it was Czech, and I am quarter Czech... Cdn Tire or Princess Auto, I forget...?

Looks nice. :D

I do hope the camera is unflattering to your rod journal finish. There is no replacement for a real mirror finish... I see a whit-ish haze off the 4th journal that could be flash, and that no one took much care with the cosmetics of where the rear main seal rides.

But looks nice...

We polished all of the rod and main journals with newspaper soaked in light oil prior to assembly (and susbsequent dissassembly :( ) so, it was the flash...I wasn't too concerned with the crank seal finish, but the new crank will have better finish.

What else is new. I went to put the sway bar on after I got the suspension together and this is what I had...it no fit. Endlink would have smacked the cross member at full drop. I'm thinking cross member would win.

Image

So I came up with this little solution (no idea why it won't work, it appears to be a 122 bar, but may be for the 1800).

Image

The adapter is made out of 3/8" plate and is plenty strong.

Here we are with the bar in.

Image

It's closer than it looks, The washer on the endlink comes very close to hitting, the cross member but just misses. That should do the trick. At ride height, the bar is further away from the cross member. Fingers crossed.

Hey Guys,

I figured I'd start a little picture thread about putting the car back together. Like so many things, assembly is the reverse of disassembly, but it takes longer. Too many things to clean and polish.

So lets start with the outside of the car...would someone remind me to TARP my damn car next time I take it apart. Overspray on everything (from POR15, epoxy primer, top coat you name it, I had it on the car). So a full 10 hours on Saturday wet sanding (800, 1000, 1500, 2000 grit) then on to the polish (cut, polish twice) and it's looking better than ever. I managed to get all the orange peel off the original paint (good thing it was plenty thick).

Here's how the outside will look until I block it all out and repaint it next spring.

Now on the the wiring. All the wiring was stripped out to paint the car, now it's got to all go back in. With the 122 this means commitment, as the harness all goes through the firewall, no cheating with firewall connectors.

Image

So after getting it all stuffed back into the engine bay, I cut off all of the previous sheathing and started to sort the wiring out. They don't take much time at the factory, so I strung it all out and untangled the mess. Then all wires and contacts are cleaned with lacquer thinner and a brass brush respectively.

New sheathing is being made with Painless Wiring's braided wire sheath and heat shrink. Looks pretty good - yup, still waiting for engine parts.

Dents, rock chips and white is terrible to match, so while it is very glossy right now, it is no less than 3 different whites. Crazy, so I've got to paint.
