Oh boy...I've got the cam locking tool. I don't know if I can be of service (Deirdre is out of town for the next few weeks, so I can't venture out too long). Let me know.

Heard back from Volvo of North Van:
"Gregory,
We’re curious to understand what exactly the issue ends up being upon review by a qualified technician.
Once you have ascertained the reason for the messages you received, we’ll look forward to hearing from you."

Decided just to throw it in at Ellis'. Sounds like they're willing to cover it if something is indeed wrong. Car goes in Tuesday. I'll avoid taking anything apart until then.

If the head survived - you'll be fine. Just swap it and go.

Crappy deal for both of you guys...

As for code readers - I've got a code reader from Princess Auto which works OK - but these newer Volvo's need VIDA software, and a DICE tool that can really do dealer level diagnostics on the various systems. I just ordered the recommended Chinese knock off VIDA-DICEpro set up - just need to fix my old ass laptop as it needs XP Pro to work properly apparently. I've got an SRS light to turn off due to car starter install, but it can also do things like align headlights, turn up seat warmers, and in the case of my failing rear park sensors - it'll actually tell me which one is failing.

Good luck on the 06' Greg - that's a set back for sure, and sadly I know what that feels like. Chin up though - hopefully it all gets sorted as you're bound to still be on warranty I would think.

Scary times indeed.

Thanks Rabin. Would love the VICA/DICE tool at some point...would need to get a laptop, but being able to adjust some of those things sounds pretty awesome to me. Turning up the seat heaters? Yes please!

Just heard from Jack at Ellis'....he pulled three codes. A/C pressure switch (perhaps related to the E-fan being on all the time?), the exhaust solenoid (same as I pulled), and the electronic throttle. He suspects the electronic throttle issue is what put the car into limp mode, not the exhaust. So he's going to pull the intake pipe and see if anything is clogged up in there, and then pull the timing cover, check if the belt has slipped, and then clean out the solenoid area. Fingers crossed everything is fine.

I do have an electronic throttle body if you need it.
