Good luck! Are you going to test fit in the slanted position?

Not starting that project yet. That will be a few years. I had a lot of IPD gift cards sitting around. So I ordered a new carb, header, and a few other little things. Want to be able to drive this everyday with no worries.

Did you buy the Weber carb set up and IPD's header? Is that what you're saying? How's your compression? How's the cam (measure the lift) - most of these engines have rounded cam lobes that make them run like dogs. Cam swaps are done with the engine in the car. The Weber carb is not recognized for it's performance ability - the SU's are. The latest incarnation of the IPD header is not optimal and the stock set up (dual down pipe) is fine for up to 160 hp.

Yes I did. Wasn't really going for performance. Just needed something more reliable. The SU's need rebuilt and the cost is almost as much as the weber. Since I had GC sitting around, just used them and didn't pay anything out of pocket.

The pvc valve was plugged and got a new one and had that bottom collector cleaned on the driver side of the engine.

We did a compression check when I first got the car. I forget the numbers, but nothing warranted us to take apart the motor.

Didn't/ haven't checked the cam.

Order a spare distributor and will clean it. Will see how the car responds to this one (since the car keeps going full advance). Cleaned the current one and put new springs in. Will see how the car response to this one too.

Thanks,

The SU's are very reliable when in good shape, I don't have Craig's experience so I go with what he's saying which corresponds with what I have read on Brickboard et al. My SU's are out for rebuilding right now and the cost is $C 425 so about $US 340, I'd save the GC's for suspension goodies, brakes etc.

Mine aren't reliable due to them needing work. I was unable to get them rebuilt for that price so went with something else.

Suspension and brakes will be next.

Thanks,

Well I started the process of getting everything bolted with the help of my step father. The process was a lot of fun.

Well we had two helpers that joined us, but they didn't offer a lot of help. Haha.

Replaced the motor mounts and switched over to a electric fan...
Image

Image

Bolted up the header and the tried to put on the manifold for the new carb. Ran into a little problem. Manifold wouldn't bolt up due to flanges on the bottom hitting the flanges on the header. I wasn't happy considering this should "bolt right up." O well... Nothing the grinder couldn't fix...

After that, it was pretty straigh forward with getting eberything bolted up. Ran temporary lines just to see if it would start and would clean it up later... At least, that is what we thought the plan would be...
Image

Car started and was trying to do the timing and get everything dialed in, but the car wasn't running right. It felt like a cylinder wasn't firing.

Image

I wasn't able to do a compression test, so we pulled all the plugs and did it by "feel." We could feel anything from cylinder 4. So we knew the head had to come off.

Took the head off today. Looks like cylinder 4 was defiantly my problem child.

Looks like some serious valve recession. Better get some seats in that thing.

Yes sir. Will be redoing the entire head. Spoke with the previous owner and it's all original. It's time.

The head has been dropped off to the machine shop. Will find out if the head is a candidate for new valve train.

Update: The head was cleared as good for no cracks. So I guess that is good. However, the entire valve train is shit. So will start ordering parts next week.

I felt frisky today, so I got a cigar, made some coffee, and went to town.

Also stumbled across a new heater valve. So i picked that up and will rip the entire heater box out... Still trying to figure how this bloody thing comes apart... May need some Scotch
