So as you all know.. my car (244) had this annoying issue and didn't like reving past 4000 RPM (and pinged)...

Rewind back to 2004
As I was building my b230ft on a stand I had a B23E in my car for awhile.

The exhaust on the car was a 2.5" system I had installed for my previous motor (B21FT) shown here:

In N/A form it was too loud for my tastes with only one magnaflow muffler and nothing else, so I brought it to an exhaust shop and told them to install a glass pack to quiet it down.

Anyway.. so 2005 comes around, my all new B230ft is ready to rock I drop it in the car with a 3" downpipe and connect it to my old exhaust. Figured a straight through 2.5" exhaust was good enough and I liked how quiet it was.

I drove it this way for 2005 till 2007, it saw two PAC NW meets and one dyno run in Calgary.

In October I cut up the 244s exhaust so I could use the magnaflow muffler on my 740 and found this...

Inside that supposed glass pack it's restricted down to somewhere between a 1" to 1.5" opening all the way through.

Unfortunately it still pings, but otherwise with open 3" DP this car seems to have a whole new life. It feels totally different on the butt dyno! Anyways, I was so blown away by my 1" bottle neck that I had to post.

Whoa! That is harsh Geoff! Glad you got that thing removed. So I'm guessing it'll pull past 4000 now?

Brutal, I'd take it back to the shop and ask WTF

It's pretty much common knowledge that glasspacks suck, but only common among the experienced. I made the mistake a few times before I learned to look at the inner liner first.

Perforated full-diameter core or nothing.

OTOH, I wonder if there's any benefit to the Flowmasters on a naturally aspirated, tuned-length header type automobile. I've never actually seen any testing to prove that their baffled design works or doesn't, I've only heard that they're not ideal on a turbo car.
