Philosophically it's a Volvo (sort of): they both started out with a tractor engine and were designed for a farmer to take apart with a screwdriver and a crescent wrench (at least up to the 240 series anyway).

For those folks interested, it's a British MoD spec. 1991 Defender 90 diesel. Picking it up next week in Montreal.

Holy-sweet-mother-of-all-things good-and-pure, that is beautiful....one of my dream vehicles. And diesel. So nice. I am quite jealous. So that would be the 200 Tdi engine in there? Congrats!

What kind of mileage on it? I'm looking thru worldpac at parts as I write, yep - whole lotta stuff for that baby.
Wanna play some poker sometime?
More pics please (under and inside!)

Congrats (and watch out for me sneeking around your house at night looking for keys)

Sorry about the delay!

It's a 2.5L N/A, tDi came later in the Defender.

Turret was removed and there is a round cover to block the hole (really!). I don't have pics of that yet though.

I'll see if Matt has more room for pics as he's hosting this one.

125000 km, engine, transmission and transfer rebuilt in 2000 by the British army I believe. The underside is pretty clean too.

Can't wait to pick it up!

Bring 'em on, Richard. Tons of room.

Or you could get a photobucket account of your own - they're free!

Holy....sounds like its been well taken care of. Very nice.

Hmmmm. I'm reading here that the Defender 90's between '91-'93 had a 2.5L 200Tdi engine. "The fitting of the 200 Tdi was the point at which the Defender name was first applied..." (Land Rover Owner International, Oct. 2002) The magazine lists the 200 Tdi as the only engine offered on a Defender 90 during those years. Is this one different due to its military configuration? There was a 2.5L diesel between '84 and '90, but that was just on the Land Rover 90. Not trying to argue....I'm just really curious!
So there's no turbo in that thing? Interesting.
Can't wait for more pics.
Greg
