'81 GLT rescued from PYP. Had a badly bent front subframe but the one from the silver 245 bolted in nicely. B23E and M46. Nice solid car and looks good from a distance. Not so pretty upon closer inspection but solid nonetheless. Needs a few more "upgrades" yet but it's doing well so far.

And this "followed" us home yesterday...literally...

Gonna be a nice warm, dry camping season from here on in...

My god who would have tossed away a beauty like that ? Good rescue!

Obviously not original paint... any idea what it's like underneath ?

Here's the story as far as I can determine...

The car was originally purchased in Lethbridge and spent a number of years there. I have service records. It then moved to Medicine Hat where it spent a number of years. It then went back to Lethbridge. It came to Calgary sometime in the last couple of years. The last record I have for it is an oil change at Valentine in December at 228,000km. It now has 229,000km on it.

Sometime between December and now it went on an off-road excursion and the front subframe caught a rock, pushing it back far enough to embed it into the oilpan. It also sustained a little damage to the drivers front corner where the bumper is slightly bent and the fender was pushed in. Someone did a $50 Maaco paint job on it with some pretty pathetic body work after the fender damage but never really bothered to fix the fender. There is also some ugly grinder work and some really ugly bondo work but it looks good from 20 feet away. I suspect the reason it was at PYP was that, while it hadn't been written off, someone realized there was substantial damage (in $) and didn't have the wherewithal ($$ or tools) to fix it. Had insurance been involved they would have written it off, without a doubt.

It's probably the most solid 240 series car I've seen in Calgary. The underside is clean and rust free. The trunk is dry and clean. The spare tire wells are solid. The doors are solid. The engine purrs like a kitten and has lots of power. It needs a new drivers seat and a stereo (Vik, you listening?). I've swapped the complete front suspension from my 245 (poly bushings, DeCarbon struts, 25mm swaybar) into it. I'll likely swap some good shocks and the 25mm rear bar into it as well, just to make it a little more fun. It'll get some poly torque rod bushings too. I might do the trailing arms while I'm at it. We'll see on that. It'll also be getting a set of 16X7 bronze Rota Slipstream wheels...when they arrive...

It'll be my daily driver for a while now so I'm not going crazy with suspension. I want a car that's quiet and comfortable to drive. I can get my fix of noisy, rough and twitchy by driving the 122...

Because he called it first...

Actually it was for the 122 but I'm not convinced the 122 will get a stereo now...

Hi Dale,

Looking good...I'd kill for a set of 242 seats (made the adapter plates for getting the 264 seats into the 122 on the weekend). With my stereo sorted out, the 122 is a pleasure to drive...it's so loud I can't hear anything but the tunes! Cars from Lethbridge tend to be rust free as the city never use to use salt. Unfortunately they have started and both Greg and I are a little pissed and looking for ways to rust proof the hell out of our cars.

Nice work Dale! Congrats on the trailer!

Rustproofing is now my new hobby. Good times.

Do you need the full seat or just the frames? I'll have the seats from this car out pretty soon and replaced with the GT seats that were in the 245. These seats are toast in terms of comfort. The lumbar support is broken and the foam is falling apart. You're welcome to them once I get them out...

I'd take the entire seat, but I think I only need the frame. I'm not really sure what the difference would be. I've got good upholstery and foam etc on my 264 seats, so whatever is easiest works for me. I'll be up in Calgary on Thursday June 28th for the day or any other time that works for you.

Thanks a bunch.
