It's finally time to start thinning the herd, so here is the first one for sale a 1990 Volvo 244. As shown in the pics it is burgundy over charcoal cloth. We have owned the car since August 2010 and a lot of maintenance and improvements have been done since. When we got the car the odometer showed 173K and only turned intermittently, changing the ODO gear didn't help so I replace the cluster with a good PnP unit and installed the new gear. This used cluster went in showing 195K and is now reading 231K, I would estimate the car is around 300 - 325K.

The only option on the car is cruise control which doesn't work... derp. The interior is clean and the cloth seats look good. I rebuilt the drivers seat and it's pretty comfortable, the lumbar and heating both work.

The good:

- Volvo OEM water pump
- Timing belt with tensioner and all drive belts
- All front engine seals
- iPd Catback "Sport" exhaust
- All new Poly suspension bushings except for the rear TAB's as they appear to have been replaced at one time and still looked good
- All new front brakes with ATE grooved rotors, PBR pads, rebuilt calipers and complete fluid flush/bleed
- New front wheel bearings
- Turbo sway bars 23/21 mm with poly bushings
- Synthetic oil in the engine, transmission (m47), and differential
- New 800 cca battery
- New radiator and T'stat
- New pinion seal
- Complete PVC/flametrap cleaning, MAF and Throttle body cleaning
- New plugs, wires, distributor cap and rotor
- Replaced intake manifold gasket
- Replaced most of the vacuum lines underhood
- Bilstein TC struts and KYB GAJ shocks
- New alternator
- Rebuilt drivers seat, passenger is in good condition
- Rear windows 20% tint, professionally done
- New motor mounts
- New outer tie rod ends and rear u-joint
- Power polished paint and dyed vinyl door trim
- No leaks and uses almost no oil
- Good used taillights installed and polished
- Wet sanded and polished headlight lenses, nice and clear now
- Good 195/65-15 summer tires mounted on bronze colored Virgo's, looks good with the burgundy car
- Very good 185/70-14 Gislaved NF5's mounted on Volvo Dersus rims
- Both door pockets intact, PS needs to be repaired and should be done shortly
- Has a JVC AM/FM/CD Stereo running on stock speakers, works fine but it's older so no ext. jack etc.
- Large Tach and small clock installed, clock only keeps time when engine is running
- Almost perfect set of Black Volvo floor trays
- Detailed engine bay and trunk, not show car but nicer than most
- Minor to no underbody rust

The bad:

- Sask. salvage title, I have all of the paper work and pics of the damage. Has been reg'd in Alberta for years
- Rust at the PS rear rocker and in the rear wheel well arch
- A couple of rust bubbles around the windshield, it leaks if you hit it with pressure at the car wash
- Being a Sask. car it has some gravel rash but not too bad
- The handbrake ratchet assy. is a little coarse, I have a good PnP unit to go with the car
- Drivers door hinge holder thingy is worn so door swings closed, I have a good PnP unit to go with car
- Shifter bushings need to be replaced, transmission shifts very nice but stick has a fair bit of play

Asking $1950 OBO. This is negotiable and reflects all of the work that has gone in to the car, the clean state it's in as well as 2 sets of rims and tires. There's still a few things to do, but from the list above you can see most of the heavy lifting has been done.

Kind of a strange one to say the least. Guy from Oxbow, SK bought it based solely on pics and his sisters test drive who really didn't know much about cars. That and she couldn't drive a stick so she brought her friend to do the test drive. #-o No lie, you can't make this shit up.

Oh, and then I did a BAD thing tonight... Plus Lisa was there AND approved of said bad thing, I really need professional help, Dr. Phil is going to be pissed... [-X

A "bad thing" with Jim after he sold one car and maybe has another one gone? No prizes for correct answers there!

Jim: 780. Sheesh!

Good one Matt, yes with me one never knows, including myself. Sorry for not buying your 780, keep reading for the lame excuse for what I did next.

Ahem... so I see a 91 244 listed on kijiji on the westside by the U. I was over there getting the cheque cleared for my car and thought I'll take a quick look for the hell of it but I am NOT buying another 240, you know where this is going...

I don't want, nor need another car, so I find it parked and take a look. First thought is it's another dirty, appliance car that isn't horrible, but not great either. It's charcoal grey over black cloth and fairly loaded with autotragic, sunroof, PW, A/C, updated stereo but no cruise. Few smaller dents, scrapes and appears to be sitting low, shot suspension??

The ad stated the exhaust was a bit loud as the over axle pipe had a hole in it. Get down to look underneath and see that the pipe is completely separated, yeah looks like a 2" hole alright. As I am looking underneath I see French racing blue paint WTF... yup, iPd sways. So is the car sitting low b/c of... yup more blue paint, iPd lowering springs. Asking price is $895.

Went home talked it over with Lisa and decide that she's as bat shit crazy as I am. Call the seller ask a few questions and head over to the westside. Find out that it also has Koni struts and Bilstein shocks, take it for a test drive and it's nothing special but everything works with no horrible noises. It only has the stock 14" steelies on stock size rubber so when pushed in the corners it's as flat as piss on a plate with the upgraded suspension and fly's till you feel the rubber give it up.

Long story short I bought all of the suspension for $750 and he made me take the car as punishment.

Hey Matt, just to explain a bit of my (ill)logic on buying this car and not considering your 780. My daughters car got written off in one of the multitude of hail storms this summer, also my neighbor was sniffing around the 240 that just sold for a drive to work beater.

I figured at the purchase price I could swap stock suspension bits on, clean it up a bit and flip it for what i paid for it even if the daughter/neighbor didn't want it. Maybe you should run the 780 down here and I'll give it the Coaldale Volvo marketing blitz.

Aww dood, I'm just messing with you. I'm afraid that if it gets too close to Coburn's house it might get painted, so there'll be no leaving it anywhere south of Vulcan.

Seems like an alright score Jim! I mean, if you rip off the good bits, and are able to sell the car for the same price, you're doing pretty good! With all the fancy bits, I'd be tempted too.

Coburn, this isn't the same car you worked on for days not long ago, is it?

That's the only reason I did it, if it would have been a stocker no way.

Don't think so, he is a Uni student but from Calgary. It's probably as filthy as the one Craig did, what is with these UofL students and grubby 240's anyway? It make me sick. My allergy, puke every time, bleugh! Like that, puke.
