I have a brand new pair of e-code 240/260 headlights for sale that I've had since the early '80s (one is still in the original box). They are part numbers 1235050 & 1235051 and I believe they fit the 1979 & 1980 model years, but can be retrofitted to later models with simple(?) modifications. They are original Cibie brand, glass lensed, made in France units that I understand are no longer available from Volvo. The housings contain twin reflectors; one each for the high and low beams, which use H1 bulbs. Please see additional detail in the general forum where I've posted my first message as a new member.

Not being an avid Volvo fan, I would appreciate some guidance from this board regarding a fair sale price. I do see that OEM headlights were selling for ~$140 when they were available. I assume that there may be some premium above that price given the rarity and new condition of the headlights. This is my first effort at selling the lights and I prefer to sell them locally (Calgary/Alberta), and as a pair. I will post a few photos this evening.

Thank you.

Note that I have edited this post several times with valuable feedback from Matt.

Fire sale price of $350 cash for the first Calgary buyer that PMs me agreeing to this price. I will deliver them personally anywhere in Calgary.

I know these headlights very well. I had a set on my 244, and they replaced a set of visually similar, dual H1 bulb dealies from the '70s. The H1 versions are crap, the H4 versions are far superior.

I think I sold my mint pair, with perfect surrounds and backing plates, clips, adjusters intact, and Silverstar bulbs, for $200. I can't remember 100% though. These assemblies WERE still available brand new from Volvo when I was building the V8 244, but most of the hardware was not. Oops - searched Tbrix and found 'em. I asked $300, but I've lost the PMs where the deal was actually made.

These fit '75-'85 240/260, nominally with the formal hood, but with the right flathood grille (from Australia) they work just fine under a flathood. On my 244 I preferred the formal hood, but that's a personal issue I have.

I have piktars somewhere.

I'm glad that you mentioned the difference between H4 and H1 versions! I had erroneously assumed that the factory replacements that I bought around 1981 were H4s :( . The bulbs installed in my set are definitely labelled "H1". Is there a physical difference in the housings, or is it just the bulbs? I will update my first posting with the correct bulb designation.

The dual H1s have a separate reflector for the high beam, and two separate bulb locations. The H4 lacks the extra reflector. They look similar from the outside, but the backside is obviously different.

Not to worry, though - I think the H1 version is more desired by the vintage guys. They stopped making them a long time ago and a mint pair could fetch a decent price. Probably not around here, though, but you never know.

Many thanks for sharing your knowledge Matt. I would never have known about the twin reflector issue (which mine have). So I definitely have the even scarcer H1 housings. Might you recommend another club/site where I may find more interest in the lights?

Cheers,
Mark

I hate to say it but turbobricks.com will probably be your best bet for selling these. Be prepared for low balling and whining about shipping cost, hold your ground though as there are a few people on their with money that will pay for a premium item.

As far as pricing the DJ Auto aftermarket e-codes for the 86-93 models sells for $360 on fcpeuro.com and are generally considered to be inferior and are more or less readily available. Based on that I would think yours being OEM and rare should fetch at least $400. Have a look on turbobricks for sale forum and look for members Mr.Borrie and BigBen, they are in Holland and Germany respectively and often sell e-codes. Check out their for sale ads to get a feel for pricing. GLWS.

ETA: I found a for sale ad from BigBen who is selling the exact same (I think?) setup on tbrix for $500 shipped from Germany. http://forums.turbobricks.com/showthread.php?t=268564 Or I should say had them for sale in 2012, doesn't say if they ever sold.

You guys are great! I really appreciate the expert guidance and advice. I will try the turbobricks site. I'm a little stunned at the price these can command. I'm assuming the prices you are quoting are for a pair of the lights?

Best regards,
Mark

eBay...that will attract the guys with the money. There are a few lurkers on t'bricks with money but most are just kids using coat hangers and bailing twine to hold their heaps together. List them right...NOS early 240 series e-codes. You may be surprised. I'd set a reserve at what you'd like to get out of them and see where they go. NOS e-codes don't exist anymore...

GASP. Those are beautiful! I had a set on my one '79 but they weren't anywhere near that nice. Sold them a long time ago. Maybe got $150. Interesting that there was a version that only held H1's.

Thanks for the additional advice, Dale. After joining t'bricks and surfing the forums a while, I have to agree with your member stereotype. Guys are looking to save $2 on a $5 part!

By the way, sorry to all you guys for posting the ginormous pics. I haven't figured out how to resize them on my iPad.

All the best,
Mark

I just subscribed to Photobucket and uploaded 7 pics of these lights to this album:

They don't get any better than this!

I think Dale nailed it, evilbay will get you a worldwide audience. I would give turbobrokes.com and even kijiji a go for a bit, they're both free. If they don't go then ebay away...

If you do have a price you want to get for them, or you don't sell them the other ways let me know - Volvo sacrilege, but the reflector bucket looks identical to my Peugeot Euro lights and I'd bet money they swap. :D

You might want to refer to them as Biode lights as that refers to them having the second reflector and in Peugeot world biode lights are much more valuable than the H4 versions. I agree with e-bay route as I usually see 504/505 biodes go for 500 euro+.

BTW - pretty sure only the high beam is H1 (bottom), the low beam light should be an H4 or the older P45t (big round glass bulb) I believe if it's really old as it still has the standard 3 prong bulb from what I see in the pics anyway. Are you guys sure the low beam is an H1 as well?

Positive. I operated a set of these for a couple years, and had much trouble keeping the H1 low beam alive once I wired and relayed the power to them. I hade one NIB H4 version in my possession and just for kicks I called Valentine and was shocked to learn that it's counterpart was on a shelf at the Canadian warehouse, so I bought it and moved to the H4 version. I have back-to-back impressions of both versions which is why I said earlier that the H1 version is literally outshone by the later one.

Edit - the three prong dealie is an adapter that feeds both lights.

Thanks for clarifying Matt!

Mine are as I mentioned with h4's as the primary. and the h1 high beams on their own in addition to the h4, so on high - both filaments are on. Makes for amazing lighting.
