Hi guy's...looks like its time for a diff rebuild,I believe the pinion bearing is going out on mine. What I would like is a
3.31 gear to fit a 1031 axle or will buy the whole assembly.Sadly lacking in the 240 series at the wrecker's here in Edmonton...Just wondering if someone has anything sitting around ??
Thanks
Alex.

How urgently do you need this? I will have a 1031 axle out of a 1989 244 5 speed available but probably not till the new year (after I swap a toyota axle into mine). If your willing to wait it would be dirt cheap.

I don't actually know the ratio in it, but fooling around with a gear calculator shows that it would probably be close. It may very well be a 3.31.

You should be able to see the ratio and axle # on a sticker on the drivers side axle tube. may require the tube to be cleaned up with cleaner of some sort in the general area. had to clean mine up to read it.

To swap the gears into your housing you would need to re shim the pinion and whatnot. Easiest is to find a whole housing and rebuild that. Why do you want a 3.31? better economy?

.I am gonna have the whole thing rebuilt anyway's, 80,000 km on the one I have, about 70,000 with the locker installed. it is getting very noisy and vibrates pretty bad on the coast down. so will prolly have all the bearings and such replaced. I realize the difference is only about 8%...but I thought I would see what's out there.
What I would like is the T5Z trans with the 2.95 first, which would make that gear more usable...and the taller diff would make the highway cruise slightly better. Mileage is not bad right now, I have got as high as 29 mpg on a cruise,
and regularly get 23-26 (it is hard to drive at 110 ) my 940t wagon couldn't manage those figures sometimes.
I am not against buying the whole assembly....

Funny I know someone with a used t5z gearbox. He said it had about 1000km on it, a .83 5th and some sorta stabilizing plate add on mod to beef if up further. I don't know the guy personally (I was thinking of buying it) but if your interested I could probably put you in touch.

Ill check the axle ratio number tomorrow... If I can find it!
