My brother-in-law has owned Volvos for 20 years. He currently has an XC70. He's been getting his cars serviced exclusively at Sandy Lane. Lately he's getting a little apprehensive to take his car there because he can never get it out the door for under $1000. He's wondering if there are other options. Anyone have suggestions?

Ben @ 4 star motors on calgary trail just south of university ave, the good indie volvo/vag guy, he's usually super busy and likes to talk a whole bunch, but is probably the only guy I'd recommend to anyone in town.

Tell him to come see me specifically. Or maybe he did a few weeks ago when he showed up because they said he needed rear shocks, and inner tie rod ends, and a bunch of other things?

If he wants, he can get me to do a VIP inspection, and he will get a list of everything the car needs (at that moment), and if he wants to see/talk to me, I'll show him everything, I have no issues with that.

Yes we are a bit more expensive hourly, yes Volvo parts are more expensive, but as of April 1st he gets a 2 year warrenty on parts and labour if the new part fails. If he does want aftermarket, cheaper parts, we can source anything anyone else can get.

I'd even walk him through a priority list if that is what he'd like.

Thanks Jordan. I'll tell him that is also an option.

Not being a smart a$$ but, sell the car? It's the reason we sold our 02 V70 AWD, basically pretty reliable just always seemed to need bigger $$$ repairs. We went through 5 wheel bearings (I know only 4 wheels right... #-o ) at ~ $575 a pop installed, control arm bushings at only 160K etc. hate to say it but what he's experiencing is the price of admission on these cars, at least from my experience.
