...I pose to all of you. As some of you may know, YROG has a blown engine of sorts, and is currently disassembled. I've been looking for an engine, and since Jim is parting out his '85 740T, I have decided I'd pull the engine out of it before it hits up the wreckers. Apparently it runs smooth, and compression was 140-150 across the board when tested by Dr. Pushrod. The 740 is getting towed here soon, and the plan is to swap straight across once its in the garage. I'm hoping to do this with as little engine building/heartache as possible.

So, I have a few options on how to run this engine:
1. keep K-jet by swapping a different head onto the engine.
2. keep K-jet by somehow running the K-jet injectors in the b230 intake injector holes if its possible
3. swap to LH for fuel, but keep the current ignition setup
4. do a whole hog LH/ignition swap

I've done a bit of reading on what is required, but I'm hoping for some input/votes on which direction to go. Athal, I know you've done this swap, and perhaps others have as well, so any advice you have would be welcome. This won't be the last engine I put in this car, so it just needs to last a couple years at stock or slightly higher boost levels.

Whole hog. I should have a block mount distributor for you.

Edit - not to mention a bunch of other parts: airbox, AMM, ECU/ICU, fancy plug wires, etc. I'll look through my pile tonight and will let you know what I've still got.

Sweet! Thanks Matt.
If I go this route, can I still use my K-jet fuel pumps?

The one thing I'm liking about the thought of going LH is the availability of engines/spare parts down the road. The wrecker is littered with 740Ts....
Anyone else? Thoughts?
I rewired this car for the b21ft, I guess I can do it again. I'm just hoping its not too painful.

Ya, I don't have any regrets about switching over. Once you've done the fuel side, you might as well do the EZK swap as well, it's only a few more hours work, then you get the benefit of knock sense. The time, effort and pain you'll spend farting around with the head and injectors to keep Kjet will easily be offset.

I have a few spares you could use as well, including a messy, but working chassis harness. You can give it a try, otherwise, find a 2.2 240 and use that chassis harness, much cleaner.

Kjet pumps run much higher pressure than LH, so are somewhat considered an upgrade.

OK, so if I leave the K-jet pumps in place, the fuel pressure regulator will keep things in check?
Athal, what do you mean by chassis harness....firewall forward? I may be interested in that, although there is an '87 240 at the PYP, which I'm guessing will still be on 2.2.
Car is in my garage now, so I'm stoked for that. Thanks to Jim for helping me get it here. I'm hoping to start pulling parts off it this week.

you pretty much want everything from the ECU to the engine for wiring. The 740 (as you'll find) has 2 separate harnesses, one for ignition, one for fuel, and they also share some other stuff like lights, etc if I recall. A real pain to figure out.

The 240, as I understand, has a harness dedicated to the engine, so much easier to use. You'll just need to add a few extra wires to splice in the turbo ignition. Grab what you can from the 740 while you have it though.

Pretty sure the '87 will have the older wiring, which may be rotten. Don't bother pulling it if it is.

swapping to lh is easier than you think. a worthwhile (and cheap!) upgrade
