Anyone made the switch to Shaw Phone from Telus, they're in the n'hood selling away? Price and features is a lot better than Telus but I'd like to get some feedback before committing.

Is this a VoIP phone?
If it is I sure would not touch it, nothing but problems.

We switched a couple of months ago. Noticed no difference. If it's cheaper, go for it. We got the intermediate package...7 cents a minute anywhere in North America. Sure has cut down on the long distance charges...

Shaw is not VOIP but I see nothing wrong with VOIP for residential use. I suspect big corporations that have switched to VOIP are having issues with bandwidth when there are hundreds, possibly thousands of users online at the same time.

Hey, thanks for the quick feedback. No VOIP it's digital using Telus lines, was one of my first questions re: the 911 death's attributed to VOIP location screwups. Roughly $20/month cheaper with 1000 anytime minutes that we don't have now plus a couple of other features for free. Was reluctant to switch after a fiasco with a long distance plan that took a lot of screwing around to get out of a few years ago.

hey jim,
You will find that with the constant power outages we get in coaldale, you will be cursing it lots... no phone even with battery pack fully charged. When the power goes out directly in your house your ok, but in the whole town the phone cuts out with the cable and internet. Otherwise, works great and is a considerable savings to telus. Use any phone you want..

Edit, we have been using it since june or july last year, we were the first install in coaldale.

^ Thanks for the feedback Rod that's good to know. The guy came back yesterday so I went for it, we'll see how the switch over and service goes. Funny you mention the power outages in town, it does seem the last couple of years there have been more outages than I ever remember which was very infrequent although a number have been due to upgrading with all of the growth.
