I have to do the brakes on the bosses S60 and am looking at getting the parts from FPC Groton. Good timing on the cars part with the dollar at pretty much par. Just wondering what kind of experiences others have had with them and if there has been any problems with customs (ie duty or taxes) or the cross border shipping.
Perhaps you have a Canadian source supplier that you use that has similar product. FCP has reccomended Akebono pads and Brembo rotors.

Thanks
Tom

Hi Tom,

FCP is great - watch for the quality of some of the Scantec parts...I've got some door handles that corroded the instant they were exposed to weather. The rest is fine and they offer saving codes (the one for turbobricks memebers use to be something like TBCC) - check on turbobricks.com for their current discount code. We often team up if people are needing things and then split shipping. Do check local parts suppliers as on the standard stuff, they can be very competative.

Craig

What Craig said, use the turbobricks code "TBCC" to get 10% off. My last couple of orders had mistakes that were taken care of but annoying none the less. They use UPS as their shipper to Canada and the price they quote is an all in which includes the BS brokerage fee so no surprises at the door, I usually have my order in ~ 7 days. You should PM Dale (Pylon) to see what he can get through his Worldpac account.

Thanks for the info.
I will be doing the order through FCP in the next day or so. If any one wants something from them PM me and we will work it out.
I am on their email list and get discount codes from them every month or so, IE hallowen, Thanksgiving, so they are good that way.

I was also looking at http://www.discountvolvoparts.com. They are located in Frisco Texas. Their OEM prices are good but they are about one hundred dollars higher than FCP. So this being the beginning of slow season at work I will be doing aftermarket parts for the cars.

While it may not save you a lot, or any, is it not even worth checking? Evidently not...

I can save a few $ on a couple of things but can't touch most of it, even when you factor in what shipping will be. Can't compare apples to apples on a couple of things. Rear rotors, for example. WorldPac doesn't list a Brembo. The benefit would be most stuff is in town or a day away...

I can get you a list of prices if you want to compare.

Thanks for checking.

Shipping is about 100$ but 10% discounts seem to be easy to get so that helps. I have a price from Valentine on the brakes and they can't come close to the prices. a lot of difference is OEM and aftermarket but the place in Texas does better.
I could go even less on the brakes through FCP. They have lower priced brands but at some point you compromise. When I was with Saturn I could tell which L-series cars had aftermarket pads and which had OEM. The stopping power/grab was just not there with the aftermarket pads.

DO NOT BUY from RockAuto.

I just bought one gasket, one O2 sensor, and one shop manual from them. $47 shipping... PLUS they charged me duty collect so another $14 when it got here. PLUS if the 2nd thing in your cart isn't in stock at the location of the 1st thing in your cart, you get charged double shipping. Buy three things and you could pay triple. They have at least 4 warehouses they can ship from. You end up going back and forth trying to find a combination of warehouses, picking THIS part first and then THAT part to see if they're both available at THIS location, etc.

FCP Groton has slightly disappointed me in the past: their packaging could be more careful (the RA order was packed badly too) and they've mixed manufacturers (one head gasket for my V6 Elring, one Goetze) to fulfill an order, and they sell lots of cheaper stuff like Scan-Tech, which sucks for their rubber parts but I haven't had bad luck with anything else. Their customer service rocks, though, and every time I've complained they've offered resolution. One thing for sure: their shipping is quick, reasonable, and without surprises. UPS World Ease rocks!

Wanted everyone to know the end results of this.

Ordered on Sunday Feb 13.
It shipped on Feb 15. Tracking number for UPS allowed me to follow the packages (two of them for a total of 65 pounds) from the US to here. Their (UPS) delivery estimate was pretty much dead on. It changed from Feb 24 to Feb 23 a couple of times but once it was on the road across Canada it stuck to Feb 23.
It arrived today, Feb 23 just before 6 PM.

Every thing was there and it seems intact. The rotor boxes are worse for wear but the rotors seem ok. They need to not stack all four rotors on top of each other in the shipping box. Not to mention it makes for one nasty heavy box that needed to be repaired a few times during shipping.

So 500$ US in parts minus 10% discount plus 110$ shipping (UPS calls it Worldease) and no fees at the door makes for a happy camper. Some time in the next month or so the S60 gets new brakes.

I believe World Pac and Altrom have dropped the Brembo line.
To many warranty claims for rotor warpage.

Finally getting around to do an update. =D>

The pads and rotors, front and rear, have been in for about two months now. It was a no fuss installation which I expected. Felt just like doing Saab brakes. Must be a Swedish thing. The rotors are fine, no warping/pedal pulsation. The pads seated in properly and quickly. Best thing of all the pedal feel and effort is just like OEM which is what I wanted. She who must be obeyed tends to be more spirited in her driving habits than me so good stopping is important. Thursday the car got an oil change and the all season tires put on. Had a look at the brakes and they are looking good.

Thanks to every one for their input.

Tom
