Hello All,
I have an 1981 or 2 240 GLT fuel injected manual turbo wagon with a mint body that I would like to transform into a dual SU turbo brick. The fuel injection is the big six outlet only using four monster with the direct injection into head. This setup has no intercooler and other than a boost gauge very little wiring to fuel system.
You can be honest and tell me I'm out to lunch to try this but I have a multitude of SU with aluminum intakes and would have Reese in Victoria calibrate them for the job.
Hummm, what do you think?

I think Volvo experimented with turbo carb'd cars for a while, and certainly it's been done by other manufacturers. I guess my only question is, why?

I quess its nostalgia of thing I can see on engine,I a bit of a lunatic volvo romantic I always enjoyed the dual carbs.I would not sell this car and enjoy it for cruising,it would attract a lot of attention at Volvo meets..... I'm sooo vain.

Oh you are not going to fit in here at all...

I could help you add an intercooler and get the injection running well, but I'm not much help as far as a carb setup- imagine it would involve some custom plumbing, not a big deal, and I've heard Reese is the man for settting up carbs. Not sure how easy it is to turn factory volvo carbs into blow through's, or if you need a totally different set up.

SU + blowthrough turbo = nightmare and a half, in my opinion. DUAL SU + blowthrough turbo = nightmare cubed. Besides, you'd have to enclose them in a box so nobody at shows would ever see them, so why bother? SUs in drawthrough configuration CAN work, but on a B20 where the turbo is close to both intake and exhaust, and never through an intercooler!

I'd type out all the reasons why I say all the above, but I'm on my phone and it would take all night. I certainly don't want to shoot you down - I'm all for goofy, I just think that some things that CAN be done should not necessarily BE done.

Good enough for me, intercooler and that will be all on that wagon.

Ok SM will do that, I'm picking up an 86 740 turbo sedan also (dead Garrrett T3 tic) body in great shape and newer four speed overdrive but an 86 so may part that one once I get my hands on it. I will be stopping in every scrap yard on my way to Calgary from coast next week taking the trans Canada looking for a sound T3 tic turbo and auto tranny for 1990 740, If any of you would like something picked up let me know. Always Volvo treasures in boonies.

I would suggest getting an at least somewhat known history turbo off someone here, or even better, a rebuilt one off someone from turbobricks, rather than take chances with a mystery junkyard turbo.

That's a good suggestion but car may not be a keeper,I have done a couple of kits in those Garrett's which is always an option once I get this car to shop.I just need to bring it home. But the scrapyards are like gold digging, the thrill of the find.Plus I need the exercise.
