Ok folks - lets see the bucket lists. Here are the rules, you must be committed to owning these cars (or have owned them in the past). I was playing this game with Matt a few weekends ago and had a hard time getting a credible list together.

Remember, these have to be realistic lists (like go to the bank and take a loan out serious).

Here's mine:

1. Volvo Canadian (low hanging fruit...).
2. Volvo 1800ES
3. Porsche 911 (older, probably rusty and hopefully pea green).
4. Subaru Sambar (Funny Japanese cab over truck).
5. Plymouth Barracuda ('cuz I like rust and mullets) - not a hemi, no stripes, no fake stuff.

Funny, I had the same list (approximately) when I was 8 years old.

Found a Japanese truck model I liked.

OOOOO...fun! Good choices Craig!

Hmmmm. Okay, realistic cars I will own, or have owned. That makes it tough. Here it goes:

1. Volvo 245 Turbo. (done)
2. Mercedes G-Wagen (not the newer blinged out ones)
3. Mercedes Unimog
4. A group-B era road-going rally car....Ur-quattro, or Delta S4
4. Lamborghini Gallardo (retirement vehicle)

Ok, I'm in:

1) 1959 Corvette (all I have left are a few pics and the vanity plate. )
2) Plymouth Barracuda (70-74 of course, a 340 or 383 is fine, must be a 4 speed and Plum Crazy)
3) Volvo 1800E (Really should have jumped on the one in Pincher this spring, looked very clean and only $6500, seller emailed back to say first person to look at it bought it on the spot)
4) Ferrari 308/328 (they are becoming "relatively affordable", although once purchased the mtce. isn't  )
5) Triumph TR6

Edit: On second thought I'll change #4 to a Porsche 968 Cabriolet, more affordable to buy and maintain than anything Enzo ever built. I had a 1977 924, very slowww but handled great, always saw the 944/968 as the next step up someday.

Hmmm...

1) bmw e34 m5. Done
2) lotus esprit s4
3) air cooled 911
4) rally car thing like Greg. Probably the lancia delta integrale
5) I could see picking up a hard top Volvo convertible some day

Edit- I'll probably own an electric car before I get a used c70. Either a fiat 500e or telsa sedan depending what the budget allows.

1. Austin Healey 100
2. Austin A40 Sports (newer engine though, old one sucked big time)
3. Volvo 1900 Glaspar
4. Volvo P1800ES -E engine
5.My brother's old rotary powered Sprite that he sold.

Got three that would be on the list if I already didn't have them.

I have tried to answer this before but am stuck.

1- Ferrari 308 GTB (not a GTS)
2- Renault R5 Turbo II
3- 4-speed 911 Turbo

This portion of the list was relatively easy to develop but I can't say I'm being 100% faithful to the rules, as I probably will not strive to own at least one of these cars and would end up with them only if the circumstance presents itself. I haven't set out to buy most of the cars I owned in my past - they just sort of appeared. My first one (Mini) and my latest one (Focus) were the only ones I did any shopping for.

#4 and 5 spots are tougher to fill and might need to be reserved for cars I haven't discovered yet, cars I forgot that I can't live without, or cars that don't yet exist.

Edit - I think I figured it out: I can't come up with many cars that are "good enough" as they were delivered the factory that I would be overjoyed with a properly restored version of them, while still being accessable from the low platform of my budget. For their flaws, the three on my list would go through their stay with me mostly unaltered, which is something that can't be said for most other cars that I can justify owning. The ones that I would modify don't belong on this list because they need my help to become worthy of owning.

I'm curious Matt- how is the 930 turbo superior to later versions, in your eyes? My understanding is that they were very unforgiving and subsequent models were more powerful AND better balanced.

What's superiority got to do with anything?

Well it's obviously superior for you in some way, shape or form! Smartass :P

I dunno. It's the vintage I guess. I'm fond of that style, not so much the later ones. The original 930 was the legend and the '84 bettered it without losing the death-around-every-corner soul. It would be 1000x better than the Renault, so forget about how a $150k Porsche goes.

More talking and thinking about this list reminded me that I've always wanted a DS and only kind of wanted a 'Cuda (and would take a Challenger). Matt's nailed the spirit of the quest with his comment about the nature of the cars as presented from the factory and their possibility of being obtainable...

I'm going to abstain on the grounds that my "list" has been somewhat compromised in the last couple of years. I'll never afford any car on my bucket list... :(

The idea was to create a realistic list...you can do that.

That's what I was going to say as well. We all can't afford the cars we REALLY REALLY would like, with a few exceptions. We all accept our financial limitations. Sure I would like a cooler Lambo than a Gallardo. In many ways the Gallardo is a rather poor Lamborghini: its much too sane. It WON'T be a classic. It's got the filthy Audi DNA. There's millions of them. But, they are relatively cheap, and should be fairly reliable compared to a quad-Webered Countach. So realistically, I'll "settle" for a Gallardo down the road. It's my best chance at owning a car from my favourite company. Surely you can think of something similar Dale.

Love the R5 Turbo call Matt. I still have a model of one of those on my garage shelf. I LOVED that car when I was a kid. Still do.

Good call on the DS Craig. Love those things. A friend of mine in the province had one, which he offered to me for cheap not long ago. I don't have the energy to restore one, but they are supremely cool.

What's the going rate on a 930 these days anyways? Doesn't seem like they've held their value compared to let's say a 993 Turbo. Should be relatively easy to come by.
