Got this email back from Matthew today...

I guess we should book the Saturday then?

Dale,

Thanks for your note. I don't think there is any issue with the May long weekend. I never have plans that weekend. To book the dyno day, you do exactly what you are doing which is contact me by phone or e-mail. The normal parameters for a dyno day are as follows:

- Club or group brings a minimum of 6 vehicles and a maximum of 12 vehicles for testing on the same day
- Tests include enough pulls on the dyno to obtain 2 back to back runs that are very close, normally within 1 HP. This usually means 2 to 5 pulls.
- Test results include color laser printed graphs showing the power and torque
- Dyno day pulls do not normally include wideband O2 or boost sensors in order to reduce the turnaround time on each car.
- Dyno day pulls do not normally include any tuning or reconfiguration of the cars to reduce turnaround time, however it is common for customers who need more extensive work to book time the day before or the day after the dyno day for that purpose. Some vehicle changes can be accomodated depending on the number of cars involved.
- Cost is $50/car
- Tecmotion supplies pop and donuts
- A TV is set up at the back of the shop with the dyno display on it so that everyone can see what is going on easily.

You can call me at 250-1820 any time if you want to discuss it further, or firm up a booking.

-Matthew

Ian's probably going to need half a day and I'm going to need a full day for our own cars, but I'm in for the glory pass afterwards.

Guys, one thing to remember is that this dyno is HARD on the numbers. If you want an ego boost, we should go somewhere else. I've seen HEALTHY 440s putting down 250-260 RWHP on this dyno, and supercharged 3.7l sixes making 160. I doubt any of the 4 cylinder guys will break 200 RWHP on this machine, probably closer to 150. This dyno is a tuning tool, really, and not good for boasting to the guys on Tbricks.

I don't care. ideally i'd get two spots and do a cam swap in the parking lot inbetwee. Gotta see how much difference my "avalanche" grind makes

Scary but I have to agree 100% with Matt
Yes I will probably need at least half a day but put me on the list!!!
I also agree number (HP) wise, gee if I get over 100 rwhp I am going to be thrilled.

so HARD on the numbers means its incorrect?

how can it differ? one dyno pull in calgary being 200rwhp another being 150rwhp....i don't understand??

:?

Dynos need to be calibrated too, ya know. You can't really compare one dyno to another. The other thing is that this guy might not use any corrections at all, and just gives you horsepower generated at that day, while most places correct for temp, pressure, and humidity, and then throw in a little extra to make the user happy and keep him coming back!

Edit - we can certainly ask him why his is so hard on numbers - he freely admits it is when you talk to him, or so I've heard.

well, as long as we know how low his dyno reads compared to other generally accepted dynos? Does it not do drag meausuring as to give you crank HP?

put me on the list as well, please :)

It might not be a linear, predictable difference. It might do drag measurements too, to give you crank HP, but if the load cell isn't calibrated those will be off too. Besides, that's just an approximation...

so, tell the guy to set his shit up right. if ian puts down 250whp, there might be something wrong, you know?
