Feel free not to participate then...

Different brands of dynos return different numbers. Different types of dynos return different numbers...

To rephrase what Matt said... It's not so much a tool to see how much h/p you're making; it's a tool to tell you if the changes you made worked... If the number (whatever it is) goes up, you've made some changes that were good. If the numbers go down, you screwed up. The actual numbers aren't necessarily that important. The real numbers come out at the race track.

What this'll do, more than anything is gauge where we stand against one another...We can do that on the track too but this is in a much more controlled environment...

Everyone will tell you that you cannot compare one dyno to another. Same with a flowbench. People will also try to compare brands of dynos - Mustang dyno puts out a different power rating than a Dynojet or a Superflow. People try to give one a factor that will supposedly "correct" it for the rest of the industry. Bullshit.

A dyno (or flowbench) is best used to measure the changes you made, not to establish your pecking order in a group of car guys. That's what race tracks are for. You don't race a dyno.

I know its better for seeing how big a % increase a mod did, however, it'd be nice to build up a motor and see what it actually does. Coming back to everyone and saying ... Welp, it makes 200whp, and everyone crying - would suck ass.

Then again, I could always dyno the tercel and see if its 21whp or 24whp it puts down ;)

Well that's the other thing too - if we have a "control" vehicle that's also getting dynoed, we can all judge our HP based on that. Plus, if we keep going back to this guy year after year, hopefully we'll be able to keep basing our mods' successes/failures on past information.

lots of peoples car is stock, but lots of peoples cars also have a gillion km on them, dirty air filters, old oil, carbon deposits. unless we take a brand new car off a lot somehwere, we're probably not going to find out what horsies something makes? I could bring Tonyas car? Its stock and still feels like it makes all 114 hp?

the firefly does not do dynos. i don't need to be laughed out of there when it pulls out 90 horses on the chart (if that)

bbq-ing is da shit. what better reason is there for a bunch of men to heterosexually come together and discuss their hopes and dreams in the art of bench racing? beef, beer, and bench racing! :P
