Well...Megasquirt and EDIS are talking turkey with the 122. It fired up tonight. First it screamed because the intake manifold wasn't seated right. After we fixed that it seemed to idle pretty good. Nothing adjusted in the settings yet and it was pig rich but it appears that all systems are at least functioning. Still need to get the rad in and filled and get the alternator wired but it's getting oh so close... :D

Huge thanks to Matt for all the help...so far. Much more to come too...

We've got a LOOOOOOooooOOOOOoot of loose ends to tie up, but we're getting there...

Everyone knows it's not a good thing to start your engine and rev it up right away, right? With the intake manifold on crooked, it barked and then WAAAAAAAAAH right up to the rev limiter of 6200... Stayed there for a couple seconds while I figured out how to shut it off (not as simple as turning a key). Set the RL to 2000 RPM as we chased down vacuum leaks, until we found the intake was sitting funny. A few taps with a rubber hammer, some wrenching to tighen up loose nuts, and walla.

Ah, the "put it to the floor" engine break-in process.

Congrat's Dale, I know there is a lot of work to do but this is a milestone

Meh...the engine is well broken in...Andy looked after that. Probably saw 6200 many times in that 142... I hope it was the bouncing off the rev limiter that made it so loud though...

Yeah...lotsa loose ends as Matt said but just getting it to fire was a huge weight off my shoulders. I'd spent the better part of last week and the weekend putting together the wiring and other than a couple of minor issues, it seems to have gone well. The engine bay looks somewhat more busy now with all that wiring loom running everywhere... And Ian, those two relays for the headlights now have 5 more identical ones clipped in beside them...

Keeping my fingers crossed that the new master cylinder comes in today and we can bleed the brakes and drop it on its wheels kinda permanently...

Wassa mater, Dale? You said you wanted it loud.. Being that the spark was terribly retarded trying to keep the RPM in check, before the fuel cut actually kicked in, I'm sure it was quite a bit louder than it would be tooling down the street. Once we finally got the vacuum leaks under control, it was pretty quiet when burping the throttle butterfly. WOT and on the limiter was another story...

Hopefully we can get the alternator and cooling system installed today so we can let it run for a few minutes tonight.

I wanted it so you could hear. I don't want it to wake up the people in Riverbend when I fire it up. However...it did sound much better when it calmed down and wasn't bouncing off the rev limiter...

Good job guys

Glad to hear it finally ran.

I guess the next goal is to have it driving?

It could pretty much be driven now except it doesn't have any seats in it...

The master cylinder does work, just not with light pressure. Stomp on it and it holds fine. Anyhow, the new one will be here by the time I get back from my extended weekend of flyfishing. I leave tomorrow after work and am home sometime Sunday...

We had it running for an extended period of time tonight. Seems to run fine but there is a huge intake manifold gasket leak. We're going to pull the intake and possibly the header again and get everything buttoned down so there are no leaks.

I certainly won't be doing a lot of hotrodding around the neighborhood. Blipping the throttle produces a substantial bark. Lets hope highway cruising is a fair bit quieter...Once the vacuum leaks are fixed and we can run some reasonable timing, it might improve a bit. The cam seems pretty lumpy right now but again, that might have more to do with a major vacuum leak...

All in all a successful evening...

Uhhh...yeah... :P

Matt worked on it a bunch when I was gone and got the vacuum leaks fixed. Now it snarls like a kitten at idle. Well...it idles anyways...at normal idle speeds. I'm hoping it'll be a bit more quiet at highway speeds. If not, Matt and I will be deaf by the time we get home from the BC trip...

Got a few more things to do but it's awfully close to driveable... :supz:

It's not so stealth, if you know what I mean...
