Last night, I was on my way home from Revelstoke through Icefield Parkway. Around 9:30 at the big hill south of Columbia Icefield, I saw a Jeep Liberty in the ditch (well, one wheel did climb above the snow pile so 2 wheels in the air)

I stopped to see if they needed help. First thing I noticed: summer tires. When I asked: He had no ropes, no shovel, no lamp, not even warm clothes or blankets (they both had light jackets and running shoes). A big nothing...

Who's stupid enough to drive through a isolated mountain road at night totally unprepared??? [-(

SUV drivers, that's who...

It never ceases to amaze me how untouchable they really think they are...

So did you manage to get them out? I pulled a pathfinder out of the ditch above canmore one winter in my old '81 wagon with brand new hakkapellitas. Between the tires, and the weight of the SUV pulling down on my bumper, I had so much traction I stalled the first try. The second try I popped the truck right out without spinning a tire. The guy in the nissan asked "is that one of those AWD volvos?".
i never 'tire' of that story, oooo, punny...
