Yup...watching it. It's on B.A.T. as well and getting lots of attention there. You could have bought that car a couple of years ago when it came out of the paint shop. Probably the straightest 240 I've ever seen...

Yeah, I remember when it came up for sale a while back. Even then it was jaw dropping. I just love the build quality on just about everything. Seems a shame the engine wasn't built up a little more. But I just can't get over how nice the engine bay is. Crazy.

Not familiar with it- just seems a shame to take a (supposed) 240 flat hood only to completely eliminate any of the original car. I mean, why not just take a plain jane 242 and do all that work?

As incredible as this car looks that was the first thing that came to mind for me too. Adding the 86+ fenders and front end makes even less sense, awesome car with those awful USDOT plastic headlight lenses... [-X Don't get me wrong I would have this car in a second, just don't understand the rationale behind it.

I gather it was probably "scope creep" - the car went in for a respray and that came out of the shop. Besides, in the early '80s that's the fenders & headlight (shape if not pattern) that the Euro cars came with. An Homologated 240 outside of CANUS should have this look, but with a flathood and the proper grille of course.

I dig it. You never see a 242 with the later front end. And it is so nice. I hope he sets a record, though I suspect he'll be setting a record for the most money LOST on a Volvo (aside from those who buy them new, of course).

There is one in Calgary...somewhere. It's black and has a Corvette engine in it. Very nicely done. I haven't seen it for years...

I totally agree with all of that, but if you're going to spend the kind of money he has why not source some e-codes and corners instead of the DOT crap that's on there? Better yet get the euro Homologated lights and grill like you described. Still an incredible car, just think the front end doesn't live up to the rest of the car.

I agree with that too, Jim, but the dude's clearly put on the nicest parts he had laying around. Like, for instance, an NA motor from the same car he got the fenders/headlights/bumpers from. (I had another look at it and the hood is a proper flathood and the grille fits.) He's got like 20 km on it, so he obviously finished the build with selling the car in mind. Why spend the money for E-codes when he won't get the investment back, and what does he care if people like us think he's done something wrong? He's got one or two bids, so SOMEONE likes it but no matter what he gets for it I guarantee you that he's losing his shirt.

Scope creep: wanting to get a power rack & pinion in your 122S, and ending up re-engineering both front & rear suspensions.

Gentleman, it's not a creep...more of a torrent. Now how I got to engine stuff from power steering is anyone's guess.

Wow, price is now over 9k. That's a fair bit. I totally agree about the headlights being kinda meh. Also the interior is not my cup of tea at all. I would have put something a little more interesting in there, at least some leather. But the front end I dig as it fits the correct Group A look. The car had already been messed with long before this guy got it, so it wasn't entirely his fault the original look is gone. I would have done the wheels differently too, but I have a feeling they'd look much better close up. I'm very curious if it will go much over 10k, and if whoever is bidding isn't some broke Turbobricker bidding beyond his means.
