Looking for a t3 to upgrade my benz.

Anyone got a stock garrett, or even a t3-60 they're not using?

I bought one off of you xx?? Years ago. Never did install it and have no plans for it. Gimme a bit to dig out of the shed and check, pretty sure it’s a t3.

Yup, it’s here! I bought it off you in 2012, I remember I ended up finding a useable td04 and installed that instead to avoid swapping lines etc.

Cool!
Matt has one as well, but it's a bit of an unknown. Is the one you have a t3 60 with a 62(?)AR exhaust? No, it couldn't be, that went with my old engine...so its perhaps a smaller compressor?

In any case, I'm trying to figure out how easy a swap this is from the control side before I dive in. The stock turbo runs off a vacuum signal, so I need to figure out if I can simply swap wastegate actuators or need to retune the ecu.

It's a T3 60trim compressor in a 0.42a/r housing with a 0.63 a/r T3 exhaust.

I cut and pasted that from the PM you sent me when I bought it, I thought this came off your 242, but I could be misremembering that...

IIRC that 60 trim 0.42 AR was from the 300ZX turbo I pulled. I had one from a 300 and one from a 280, I kept the 280 and I think I now remember giving that 300 to you, Athal.

Am I reading it wrong, or is the t3-60 compressor map very close to the stock k14 turbo? In that case the only difference might be slightly slower spool for better top end with what I'm sure is a larger exhaust flow.

http://www.not2fast.com/turbo/maps/all.html

I still havent figured out how the control works either.

Using the bottom scale on the Triple-K map and converting it from kg/sec to lb/min, I would say that the Garrett is a bit stronger in the compressor section. Using the 2.0 pressure ratio line and the 70% efficiency curve, the Garrett spans about 13.5 to 27 lb/min while the K14 spans 10.5 to a bit under 24 lb/min. They're both good for over 230 hp here, with the Garrett being capable of about 270.

Of course, the K14 claims to have a better peak efficiency of 76% compared to 74%. In practice this makes very little difference.

As you correctly say, the bigger difference will probably be in the turbine section. If the .63 A/R turbine is significantly freer than the K14, you will indeed have lazier spool but much better top end. The surge line is a bit further to the right on the Garrett compressor so a bit lazier turbine is going to help here.

This may be the smartest way to go, certainly simplest.

Get the air a bit less heated but unless I can modify the exhaust at all might not actually gain that much
