To keep the 760 for sale thread a little less cluttered, I'll start this thread...

If you read that thread, you'll know we are now the proud owners of a '92 960 wagon. It was a lead from Andy who discovered it on Valentine's lot. It had been sitting for nearly 6 months before they discovered they actually owned it.

Anyhow...it needed a few things so I spent the better part of the weekend in Matt's garage replacing brakes, belts and a coolant temperature sensor. Turns out there are two sensors and I replaced the wrong one. While I was doing the timing belt, I noticed some markings on the cam gears that indicated they were intake and exhaust. Hmmm...only one reason one would mark the cams...if they came out. Why would they come out? Possible head rebuild at some point?

Well...while I was on the phone to Valentine this morning ordering parts, I got them to run the serial number. Sure enough, head replacement; December 2006. This is good, I think. What mileage? 192,000. It's got 208 on it now. Keeping in mind, this car sat on Valentine's lot for nearly 6 months, it's got about 8 or 9 months of driving and 16,000km on a rebuilt head... :D

And hey, the seat heaters work! My butt was toasty this morning driving in to work... :D

Oh, and exhaust? This thing has a pair of monster downpipes leading into the catalytic converter. Wonder what a 3" cat and 3" pipe to the bumper would do to performance? :tonqe:

Great score Dale! And great news on the rebuilt head. Can't wait to see it.

Pictures will come once I get it washed up. Replaced the other coolant temperature sensor today and it's running much better now.

I think it's got a leaky rear shock so I'll likely replace the pair with the Tokikos I pulled from Tylers old wagon at PYP. A set of 25mm swaybars should help it stay a little more flat on the corners. The more I listen to that engine the more I want to replace that exhaust system with something a little less restrictive and noise inhibiting... :D

You've got to admit, a 4" anthing is pretty low restriction :D I was just kidding, I don't think the 6 would have enough poop to fill up one of those tubes. 2.5 stainless would be nice.

Yeah it did, Andy. I don't know if you heard about his fun getting it started after visiting Valentine, though - that CLT sensor had become a switch, going open/closed at random, triggering either warmup or "OMG I'm overheating and we'd better trigger the rad fan!!!" Anyway, when he tried to leave VV it thought it was dead cold so it flooded until I told him to plug the new sensor in and just leave it dangling in free air while he cranked it up. It started and ran home fine.

Since then he's changed the sensor and says it drives beautifully now.

Glad to see my shocks are gonna be going to good use!
If I ever have another Volvo wagon im getting Tokico's again and B&G springs. That combo felt great.

Glad to see you have a non rusty volvo in the family! It seems to be a pretty rare thing :P
