after being inspired by a turbobricks thread i thought i would try making my own swichblade key with the key to my 740.

Turbobricks thread:
http://forums.turbobricks.com/showthrea ... t=flip+key

so i went on Flea-Bay and bought a key for a 2003 2004 or a 2005 S40

next I went to Canadian Tire and got an extra spare key cut.

so when my key arrived by mail after about a week i used a very tiny finishing nail and removed the pin that held the key in to the "flip part". after removing the key i traced the outline of the Volvo key on the one that i got cut for my car at Canadian tire. I then used a hack saw to cut the rough out line of the key then i finished it with a Dremel tool.

after creating a groove for the pin that holds the key in to the remote part i put it all together and tried it out in my car. IT WORKS!! eventually if i get the motivation im going to try and switch out the guts of the remote with a remote for my alarm so i can use the buttons on the remote with my alarm.

its not hard and also at the same not easy. it takes TONS of patients and hand eye co-ordination but its a pretty cool finished product. if there is interest i wouldn't mind making some of these for people if we can agree on a price.

Nice!! Now you need to install remote locking on the car and figure out how to get the switchblade to "talk" to the remote controller. The keyless remote install has been documented on tbrix, programming the Volvo remotes could be a challenge?

P.S. Just installed winter tires on those GLE rims I got off you this summer. Three of them took 1 small weight and the fourth nothing!! Thanks again, they may not be Eikers but they still beat steelies with hubcaps!!

I actaully work for my dad in cochrane now so thats why you saw my can there. why were you there?

One of the guys that works for my dad thinks that he might be able to transplant the guts from the remote for my car into the switchblade and thinks he can make it work with my car some how. So we'll see how that goes.

Keep us posted, losing the keyless remote going from the V70 to the 745 has been annoying! Would love to add that creature comfort back to the new old car.
