I noticed after looking at a few pictures that the 122's original dash looks vinyl covered and kind of plush. Mine has been replaced at some point with a hard plastic dash.

Does anyone know if it's possible to find or reproduce the original looking dash? Now that I've seen how nice they can look, I'm wondering if it's possible to do it. Do any of you 122 owners have the original dash on your cars? It would help me to see one up close. If you do, I'd love the chance to come by and see it.

Thanks,
Dustin

The originals are available from IPD and Olof from Vintage Import Parts among others. They are around $400 which is why many opt for the $100 cover.

Hi - I have what you are talking-about I think: a dash which is softer, etc.... I (carefully, but not quite carefully-enough) took it out of a parts-car a friend had. It is not really a cover however, but glues right onto the metal. No idea where to get one from, but I would try Olaf in Vancouver, who has a little business selling parts for old Volvos. He is great, and the prices are reasonable most of the time (604-992-9664). Failing that, he can probably find you a cover - I've never seen one. The original dash was hard plastic tho', for sure. Helpful? Confusing?

Oh, and feel free to come-over and take a look sometime.

I could post a pic too, if you want.

Thanks guys. It's silly that I didn't consider IPD. I did some googling, and I found a ton of sources for the cheap version but nothing for the nice ones.

I think I'm going to spring for it since the cheap one is starting to bug me.

Jimbo - I think I'll take you up on that. Are you in Calgary? When the roads dry I'll bring the 122 over to take a look.

Hi again,

I just reread your response more carefully - are you sure the original dash on a 122 was hard plastic? From my limited research, it looks like it was a softer vinyl type covering.

Thanks,
Dustin

Hi Dustin,

Weeelllllll, yeahhhhhh. I am pretty-darn certain. I've never seen an OLD soft/plush dash, but lots and lots and lots of old cracked plastic ones. Then-again, maybe I'm not understanding you right.

I'll be happy to meet for a chat. Call whenever you like - 852-5670.
