Hey y'all,

Ya gotta check out my sweeeet new radar detector that I got for the 940T. It'a an Escort Passport SRX, featuring some of the latest and greatest radar detection and laser defence technologies. 8)

It's a remote unit so the radar antenna goes behind your grill and a discrete little control panel goes somewhere on your dash or console. It picks up all types of radar and tells you what band and sub-band it's picking up, give you the range and possibly even the direction.

The unit also picks up lasers too but the best part of it is that it also has 2 laser "shifters" (jammers) that go on the front of the car and one that mounts on the rear. When you get hit by a Police laser the unit gives you a distinctive urgent sounding audible alarm and the shifters/jammers f*ck up the laser signal for several seconds giving you enough time to jump on the binders so by the time the cop is finally able to lock on to you with his laser you've already slowed down to the limit thus saving you an expensive and exceedingly annoying speeding ticket. \:D/

Anyways, it's pretty much top of the line for Escort and is rated as being one of the best radar detectors on the market today. I'm pretty stoked about it... :supz:

Sweet!
I've been thinking about the same unit. I've got a nice spot on the dash to use for the control panel. My old unit went haywire a little while ago, and these trips to Calgary aren't getting any slower....
Were you able to find it locally?
Greg

I bought it off eBay and got a great deal on it. 8) These units retail for about $1500 USD. There was a guy on eBay who selling them (brand new) for about $560. I see he doesn't have any more listed at the moment. His eBay handle was Illinois9094. You could try contacting him and asking if he's going to be putting any more up for auction on eBay.

There's some really good articles and in-depth reviews of radar detectors/laser jammers on this website:

http://www.radartest.com/articlecat.asp ... mit=Search

I suggest you check out a number of the articles listed on the above page if you're in the market for a new detector.

The SRx did very well on their tests of high end remotes and ranked #1 or a close second in just about every category. According to their (very well run) tests, the laser jammers on this unit worked very well and gave you plenty of time to slow down before they could lock in and get a reading of your speed.

I just drove out to the Shuswap this weekend in the 240. Made it from Calgary to Salmon Arm in only 4.5 hours. That's a really fast time. Pretty much stayed between 125 - 135 km/h the whole time. I didn't get any tickets because I left at 4:00 a.m. and never even saw one cop on the road.

Given my tendency to grossly exceed the speed limit I figure I'm bound to get my share of tickets driving that 940T which is a whole lot faster than my NA 244 GL. At the prices they're charging for speeding fines these days it'll only have to save me 2 or 3 tickets to pay for itself. I put a remote detector in my 240 back in the 80s and it paid for itself at least 10 times over during it's life span. I still have it in the 240 I'm driving now but I don't think it's all that useful any more. It only picks up X and K band and can't discern all that well between X band and motion detectors and microwave towers so gives a lot of false alarms.

For anyone who's interested in one of these things I can probably get you one of them for $565 USD plus shipping. That's a screaming hot deal when you consider what they normally retail at:

Here's a website where they're charging $1600 USD for one of them:

http://www.truckaddons.com/Catalog/subp ... tors_4.htm

Here's another one where they want $1500 for one:

http://www.passportsr1.com/srx.htm

With shipping and duty and GST and all you're looking at about $665 USD all in. That's a fair bit of $ for sure but pretty cheap considering what they normally retail for. $665 USD is only a few speeding tickets here in Alberta now that the fines for all moving violations have gone way up so a unit like this would probably pay for itself within a couple years at least, depending on how much driving you do and how much you tend to speed.

Anyone who's interested should PM me for details on how to get one at that price.
