friday after work I went up to my car to go home from work and my car wouldn't start. I kept trying to get it started and end up flooding it....damn what do I do? Right now I took out the spark plugs and am now letting it dry out for a few days here. Where should I start?

thanks

is it an 850? if it is you just need to keep cranking it until it starts. if you let off and then crank it again you will flood it. i don't know why this happens but when i was working at the dealership i saw this occurred quite often.

If thats not the problem you need to see if you are getting any spark at all.

I am willing to bet there is nothing wrong, put the plugs back in and just crank it till it starts and don't let off whatever you do. if after a minute it doesnt start you should check for spark, timing etc...

Had this happen on a 95 850 at work. Took the plugs out, dry them off with a torch and crank the engine over with the plugs out a bit and let hit stand for an hour. Put it back together and it worked but it had a crack in a vacuum line for the turbo. Look into it

Roberta's 850 isn't succeptable to the failure Ben mentioned, whereby if you fail to get it started the first time it'll flood. I've also never heard that happening to an 850, and it's a darn good thing too 'cause I've hopped in it and given the key a quick twist, expecting it to fire right up like all my other cars, too many times to count. Maybe I misunderstood his post?

What IS common and what has happened to Roberta's car is called "lawnmower syndrome", which is when you start the car (from cold) to back it out of the garage and onto the driveway and shut it down immediately. When you go back to the car, it might not start and seems flooded.

You COULD go through all the effort that Andy goes through, which is considerable, OR you could just do the common "repair" and put your foot on the floor while cranking it, and crank until it starts, whether it be 10 seconds or a minute. It also won't settle down into a smooth idle right away after it fires, so be ready to keep it running with the throttle.

This has worked every time for dozens of folks on the Brickboard, for me, and for Viktor.

If you're not dealing with an 850, sorry for wasting your time!

Being as he was looking for a roof rack for a 7/9 series car a while back, I have a feeling it's not an 850 we're dealing with. That said, it's always helpful if one indicates what car/engine we're talking about so people don't waste time with possible solutions to a non-existent problem. A no-start situation in a 240 turbo will have a completely different solution to a no-start in an 850...

the lawnmower syndrome is what i meant, i was in a rush and didnt really read what i had written... lol

anyways yeah its sounds like you dont even have an 850 but in any event it never hurts to try depressing the gas pedal and just cranking it till it starts.
