I've been running 185/65/15 on the 940 but next time I'd go with 195's- the 185s get quite short when they wear. They're already 0.5" shorter than stock (195/65/15, 205/55/16).

FYI, my tire supplier has blizzak ws60 in stock at $111 and winterforce for $82. add tax and a case of beer.

Hmm, interesting point on the 195's. More hmm.. nice price on the Firestones, how much for studding and is that for the 185 size?

price is 185 yes, and i'm pretty sure they don't stud, but I'll ask next time I call.

That's cheap.

Just re-found this thread.

I have had really bad experiences with studded's... like driving on wet ballbearings...

I love studded tires.

if you've had bad experiences, the tires or studs weren't properly matched to one another, or not properly installed.

I also have and will be replacing my current Hakka's with studded, the only rip-off is that Kal Tire just quoted me $1280 for Hakka 5 studded
They seem to have the exclusive in Canada for Hakka and are pricing accordingly #-o

For anyone in Edmonton that might be interested, a friend can get Gislaved Nordfrost5 195/65R15 for $140.69 per (includes tax and tire levy). :)

I just picked up a good set of 14" Coronas I'd like to run over Winter, always fancied them, but mainly to have two sets of wheels as apposed to swapping tires over on one set every season. I'm just curious what tire size you guys might recommend for Winters - I think the factory size is 195/70R14 on these (?). Having trouble getting Gislaved or Generals in this size though. Or, any other tire brands worth looking at?

Please don't make me ditch the Coronas.

I think you mean 185/70-14 not 195 which is likely why you can't find that size? If the stock size was 195/60-15, 24.21" diameter (Pretty sure it was) then the 185/70-14, 24.19" diameter is your size. I suppose the Coronas are better than black steelies...

Your right, I got confused somewhere along the line with all the sources on the internet... :-X

Much better selection with 185/70R14 including Gislaved and the Generals. If I can get reasonable ventilation the Coronas will going to the darkside. :-"

That price on the NF5 is the same as the General Altimax Arctic which is the rebadged NF3. Same price for a tire that is 2 generations older, given that fact not sure why anyone would buy the Altimax's?? Actually that price for the NF5 is very good when compared to it's direct competition as well.

I always price out the nokians- $160 for Hak R's, or $800 installed. Guess i'll be going with the nords!

I'm Scotish and Cheap (a real scary combination) but I also like traction in winter so I did go ahead an get a full set of 16" studded Hakka 5's for the winter.
Ice racing anyone???
