Some of the 850s and V70s feel really great to me with bils.
This is really what I wanted to hear. Roberta's shocks have leaked quite badly and the ride of her car has deteriorated in the past few years, so I've been contemplating taking the plunge.
Well, I don't want to set you up for disappointment since you will probably notice more imperfections than I would, but if I had an 850/70 it wouldn't even be a question to me, even with pretty functional (but used) stock stuff. I wouldn't worry about loaning my car to someone either if it had them and expect it to be overly harsh, mis-matched or unpredictable like the 740 bils really are up front. On cars with rubber bandy summer tires, you will definitely find some rattles in my experience. They are still stiff on compression, but it doesn't feel like it is upsetting the car to me.
Otherwise, I'd say that my reaction was mostly "hey, they should be like this when new." Then again, 850s all feel super numb and cush to me (the steering, subframe rubber and shifter especially), so bils in an 850 is about the level of driver control of a reasonably worn out bone stock 240T?...definitely apples and oranges. The tires at least feel like they stay where they are supposed to, and they go good in the snow with good snows and bils...until the radiator or intercooler cracks, then the fun ends rapidly. That design makes me want to line up the engineers like the 3 stooges and smack them all /rant.
Bils are an interesting love-hate. I like the design and that they last forever. Not being able to make minor adjustments and the mis-match on some cars has made me like using konis pretty well, even though I think the design and longevity of the bils is better. Live and learn I guess.
