For reference, according to wikipedia...

PRV- 331lbs (seems low?)
can't find redblock, but apparently it's more than an aluminum 5.0

The data I have is:
Volvo B21F - B23F 365 lbs
Volvo PVR V6 350 lbs

An engine that would really sing in there would be the B6304. Nice smooth DOHC inline 6. Makes 200hp. Would make more if it could breathe out the exhaust a little better. M90 kits are available from Europe. The nice part? They fit...bolt right in with the right engine mounts...

Don't forget...PRV is aluminum...that's why it's so light.

I think there is one sitting in a garage in Edmonton. Pretty sure Eric had one anyway...

I know the thread has moved on, but I wanted to chime in on the cost of restoring one of these cars. I bought my 122S from a guy who was very careful about keeping receipts. I'm pretty sure he's into that car for at least $16k. I won't say what I got it for out of respect, but it was a fraction of that.

This is an interesting topic for me, because while I really love my 122S, I want to restore my own. I've collected a lot of parts and I've got an extra B18 in the garage. When I figure out garage space I'm hoping to start that.

15/16 is still a fraction, just to be clear.

Personally, I think the whole 122 as a first project car thing is a bad idea, though it'll teach you all sorts of things RIGHT NOW. Kind of like me and my Mini, back in '87... learn quickly or don't learn at all! If you've got the aptitude and the tools and a place to work on it (and in my situation back then, sympathetic parents and other cars to drive while yours periodically takes a dump), you're okay so long as you keep the interest in it and don't get in over your head right away.

Looking at the mess of a 123GT that's in my garage (and it's a pretty good example, considering!), I'd have to say that it's probably over most people's heads. I'm just now starting to hopefully believe that it's not over mine.

im begining to think that instead of getting to far in to a 122 restoration right now (especially since im probably going away to school next year) i might pull the funds together and grab that 780 from Matt cus it would probably be a little more fun than my 740, drive that till it poops its guts out, then throw in a different engine.

nope :( gone, got tossed in the 88' 760 when i took her in for scrap after bending up the frame a bit.

And for future reference a 5-cyl is about 350lbs as well, so i imagine a 6'er will be a tad heavier.

Well the 780 is aboutthe heaviest of the RWD Volvos until the 95+ 960, heavier yet if you get the turbo version... Choose an engine with some balls, whatever you do. I wouldn't be disgusted by a domestic pushrod V8, but it's not what I'd do. A Northstar or Ford 4.6 DOHC, sure, or the Lexus SC400 (rear sump oil pan) would be nice too. An inline 6 would be my choice, maybe a 2JZ-GTE Turbo Supra?

But for simplicity, pick up a ratty '92-94 960 (later is better) and you've got the whole engine swap right there. Plug and play, simple as can be.
