Oh man that is beautiful.

Yeah Jim, I nearly got stuck leaving my driveway this morning. It's pretty bad. But I'm on a waiting list for something AWD...can't wait to see what that is.

Glad to hear everyone is ok...
Good luck with the search to find a suitable replacement...
I'll send any adds your way that I come across...
Curious why you're limiting yourself to a B6 or B7, why not consider a B8?

Thanks. Greatly appreciated.

Mostly limited to B6 and 7 due to price. B8's are out of my price range, and truthfully, I don't like the way they look as much.

Assessment has been done on my car, just waiting to hear the results.

In the meantime, I've been talking to a few folks at Volvo of Edmonton about this car:
http://volvoofedmonton.autotrader.ca/us ... 90cbbc.htm

Everything looks good. Clean Carproof, and a decent service history. Not a huge fan of silver, but I can deal. Biggest issue is that damn DVD player, which is aftermarket, and I'll want gone. Apparently this means the whole headliner needs replacing. Ugh. Needs tires, doesn't come with alloys, and needs a steering angle sensor and horns. Timing belt is coming due as well, so with all that combined, the price is getting a bit high.

I'm also talking to Brent at Sandy Lane about this car:
http://wwwb.autotrader.ca/a/Volvo/V70/E ... po=ShowCPO
Looks pretty good. Was a Vancouver car until earlier this year. Struts haven't been done, nor has the angle gear. Mileage is a little higher than I'd like as well. So we'll see.

Well, just scheduled the above V70R to an inspection at Volvo of Edmonton for tomorrow morning. And then bam, this shows up on Kijiji:

http://alberta.kijiji.ca/c-cars-vehicle ... Z552614146

My dream XC. Really rare to see the Ocean Race in that year. Looks clean. Waiting on Carproof. If it checks out, I told the guy consider it sold.

In the meantime, the silver XC has fallen through, at least for now. Between a $1,200 headliner, timing belt, SAS etc., the price would need to come down a lot, and the sales guy says it can't. If everything was good, which it isn't, the car is worth 15k I figure, so the price is fairly high.

Ooooo, ORB is an awesome color, if I ever bought an XC I always wanted that color. =D>

Just so I can torture myself a bit, any other details on the R at Sandy lane? For the km's with no suspension or angle gear work being done that price seems really high even for an R. It's definitely one of the more desirable color combos but still...

Congrats on the ORB if goes through, assuming it has as the ad is already marked sold.

I've got 1k down on the car! Wow, amazed they would mark it as sold already!

I have a Carproof and its 100% clean. Guy says its one owner. How do I verify this on the Carproof?

Problem is, dude refuses to allow a third party inspection. Says they don't do it, and its not done. I told him I've had 3 in the past year, without question. He seemed vehement that it wasn't done. Very sketchy. And he's got my credit card number. Ugh.

I phoned Valentine, and the woman there said they have no records. Phoned Volvo of Edmonton, and the service manager pulls the whole VIN and finds history. Tells me what he can. Phone Valentine back and get the same woman, and she says she can't pull the history because I need permission from the owner. ARGH! What a pain. This totally depends who you talk to....I've had this before. You just gotta find the right person who knows the system. Gotta talk to the service manager tomorrow.

But, the car has had warranty work done regularly according to Volvo of Edmonton. But the fuel pump has been replaced 3 times in the past few years. Very weird. Gotta be some other issue. At any rate, it does have history at Valentine which is good, just gotta find the rest of the info.

Thoughts on this dealer??? How sketchy is this?

Edit: cancelled the inspection on the R, so I don't know a whole lot. Brett seems like a really nice guy. Car was from Vancouver, but has had zero work done on struts, clutch slave, angle gear, as far as he knows. He was going to pull some service records for me from Vancouver before I cancelled the inspection. He says there is one scratch on the back, and that the leather was treated and re-sprayed. Not sure why the respray, but he said it was cracked. Price is maybe a bit high, but he claims the car is sound.

Huh, no PPI, WTF's up with that??!! That would give me serious gas pains, it might all be fine but still it's an 8 year old car, lots of time to acquire "history" possibly bad... You should book your PPI and go up to take it for a "test drive" to Valentine.

You should be able to tell, although sometimes it's not so obvious, by looking at the registration events. If it's only one owner it should just say renewal, if it's sold then the next registration would say new registration or owner. (I think, haven't looked at one for awhile and can't remember if they are consistent with that) If I were you I would hate to pass that car up, but without a PPI I dunno how people do it. When we sold our 2002 V70 AWD they drove down from Calgary, took it for a 10 minute spin and handed over the bank draft.

Thanks for the info on the R, I need one like I need another orifice. I guess at those km's it could be good, but it needs, or should have had, the Timing belt done for sure. Have to think those other R specific issues are going to crop up soonish at 160K? In the ad they allude to $2K worth of recent work, did he say what that was, guessing the TB, major tuneup service and???

I think he said thermostat, new tires maybe, and I forget what else. Timing belt was done recently I believe. He told me it was an extremely tight car in the suspension department compared to ones he had drove that were native Edmonton cars. He didn't at all seemed bothered by the fact that the struts hadn't been done yet, and figured they'd go a while longer. Still haven't written it off if the XC falls through. I'm sure it would be a headache eventually, but what high-performance luxury car isn't?

Hahah! Good call. Test drive and a quick trip to Valentine! I still don't get it...I started second guessing myself, like "maybe people don't get third party inspections", but once I came to my senses, I realized these people are just crazy. Laura and I talked about it, and I think even if I can't get an inspection, but I can find service history, and everything looks good, I might still bite if the price comes down $500 or so. Price is very good, and I really really want it, so even if it needs a few k in work, I'm still coming out ahead over what Volvo of Edmonton was asking for their XC with higher mileage.

Okay, the Carproof says "Canadian Renewal" under report findings, over and over...no mention of "registration" or anything. Must be one owner then. Excellent. Other than that, it mentions "service facility" at 88,000kms. Not sure why that's there, but no accidents, so that's good. Thanks Jim.

If this works out, I'll be quite happy. I just hope these people wake up and realize they can't expect me to buy without an inspection. Either they know something is wrong and they're trying to hide it, or they're just lazy.

Heard from them this morning. Guy talked to his boss and responded with this:

"My boss isn't comfortable with it going out for a 3 rd party inspection.

We have the safety for the Volvo and we can give you a copy of it .

Due to high interest on this unit it needs to be paid for by Friday or the $1000 will be refunded."

What a bunch of wankers.

pffftt... those AMVIC inspections are a joke, about the same as an insurance inspection. If all of the lights work and the car didn't run through the shop door it's a pass. Typical pressure sales tactic as well. With 3 fuel pumps on record somethings weird with that car...

Seriously though, book it in to Valentine and grab it for a test drive. Fill up your voicemail and turn off your phone while you wait. If it's good go back and hand them a bank draft and all is forgiven, if it's not take it back and tell them to shove it up their collective ass.

That's the thing...the AMVIC thing is hilarious. The first XC I had inspected at Valentine that had already had the AMVIC done came back with 6k worth of worth needed....including a broken spring. Safety first I guess. [-X

I've spoken with Jordan about the fuel pump thing, and he says it does happen with these cars. Its weird that Valentine hasn't had it sorted yet, but he had a list of a few things he would check before changing the pump. Could be a simple fix.

Wish I were in Calgary to be able to get it to Valentine today. I think just bringing it there without them knowing would be genius. The inspection takes a while though, so I dunno how well that would go over, and Valentine can't get me in likely until after Christmas.

That's total BS. I'd tell them no dice without an independent inspection. Now they don't like this as they have had garages screw them out of sales and tell someone that a car's a lemon. How did they end up with the car? Is there a warranty? If not just walk. There are other cars.
