I did it on my wife's car before we sold it: Maguires instant detail spray to lube the surface, and rub it with the clay bar. Do a little at a time. It's not hard.

You'll probably want to wax the car afterwards, as it cleans off nearly everything. You won't believe how smooth the paint feels afterwards, though.

I just finished my leather interior using Leatherique products and am very happy. The turned cardboard hard leather into the land of suppleness. The only downside is that it also removed all of the calouses from my hands (my wife doesn't seem to mind, but I use to be able to sand drywall with my mits they were so rough  ).

I'd stay away from the rest of the snake oil in a can (sprays etc), none of them have ever worked all that well for me.

Hi Kat
Yup we were talking about this
Start with a good wash job.
Then I would clay bar the car
http://www.canadiantire.ca/browse/produ ... 6066118574

Then clean the paint to remove any remaining contaminates (optional but it will improve the shine)
Meguiar's Paint Cleaner
http://www.canadiantire.ca/browse/product_detail.jsp?PRODUCT%3C%3Eprd_id=845524441890031&FOLDER%3C%3Efolder_id=1408474396672466&bmUID=1186065869156

Then finally a real good wax, I have switched to Meguiar's NXT and am very impressed with the product
http://www.canadiantire.ca/browse/produ ... 6066118549

If you cannot tell I am a Meguiar's fan, I have tried many many different products (take a look in my garage, and help yourself to the stuff that does not work

For leather I have been using Meguiar's® Rich Leather Cleaning Solution
http://www.canadiantire.ca/browse/produ ... 6066352290

p.s. the Canadian Tire links are just to bug Raz :P

lexol is the best leather cleaner and conditioner i have ever used.

Kat if you don't currently own any detailing stuff you might want to consider just getting the car power polished by a professional it might cost more but it the job will be fantastic. Clay barring an entire car is a very tedious process plus the bars aren't cheap and neither are those polishes and waxes.

I use this guy named dave he is literally the best polisher i have ever seen. i will see if i can get some pics of the work he has done. Hi prices are also reasonable

I don`t see what the guy`s sexual orientation has to do with it. I only care if he does a good job o`polishing the car.

Please give the contact info for this car detailer guy. I may be interested in getting him to do my 944T.

A couple o questions about claying the car. Does it do a good job of removing minor scratches :?:

Roger

i dont have any before pics but the car lived in drumheller its entire life and that paint was super faded and crappy. I thought the paint was finished for good but then Dave saved it. The pictures dont do the car justice it looked amazing. He guarantees his work for over a year and all you need to do is to rewax by hand once a year and you are golden.

haha oops

i will get his info

Clay bar does nothing for scratches, it removes all the embedded crap from the paint that builds up over the years. the only thing that will fix scratches is a good power polish.

Claying is not hard, but it is a little tedious.
It removes any contaminates ON the paint but it will neither cause or remove scratches. Polishing will remove the scratches, then an annual go over with a clay bar before the spring wax and you body will look great for the season.

well, that being said, I do have quite a bit of detail stuff up in cold lake. and as far as the cost of the clay bar goes...(here's me being a little daddy's girl) if I can convince my dad it's a good idea and his car needs it too...then he buys it and i get to use it too ;) heeheeheee. I do not fear tedious detailing jobs, and I would rather do it myself and save some moolah...besides, i may not be able to do much engine work, but I KNOW i can detail a car like nobody's business!!!

i cant find Daves number i will have to ask my friend tomorrow.

I can detail my car pretty well and make it look good but trust me Dave is the straight up man. He details show cars and what not, i send all my friends there and back when i used to work at Volvo i sent customers to see Dave. He has never disappointed me and is definitely worth the price to restore worn or scratched paint.

yes, just read the instructions and start with small pieces of clay. Do only 1 panel at a time max.
