I have searched all the usual suspects, i initially though bad ball joints but they appear to be good and none of the bushings look espeically worn or cracked.

The problem i am having is a light clunk occasionally while driving straight nut mostly when turning it doesnt happen too often but i can reproduce the clunk. If i slalom the car from right then hard to the left in an exaggerated motion it will clunk, it will only clunk on the left side though. The clunk is only audible i cant feel it through the steering wheel.

Does this sound like a ball joint issue or something else? the ball joints dont look old or worn so i dont know what else i should look at.

I'm not sure how the struts are in a 700 series.. but on my 240 there is a retainer nut that holds the strut in the strut tube. I originally never had that on  (this was a long time ago)... and it made quite clunk in the front end when turning... sometimes. Only audible, no wheel feedback.

Possible that maybe this retained nut came loose on your car? Just tossing another idea out there.

its not a loose battery :) its definitely in the suspension. anyways i took the ball joint off and it looks to be in good shape, tierods are tight and everything looks to be in order. I then decided to take the strut out and see if i could see any problem areas with the mount. got everything apart and it all looks fine. i cant put it back together because i dont have spring compressor though and now i have no way to get to the store except for my motorcycle :(....

i was impatient and thought i didnt need spring compressors, i was wrong when the springs popped it gave me a good scare. i wasnt totally unprepared though i had them aimed away from me and locked into a vice but still it shot the freaking mount off at least a meter...

JEESUS don't do that - damn good way to get killed. $10 at Princess Auto get's a spring compressor. I'm going with strut bearings -they can clunk.

the bearing did look a little suspect, i will see if anyone stocks one tomorrow if not i will just take it apart regrease it and hope for the best. i need the car on sunday so i cant have it waiting for parts.
hopefully its nice out, i dont like riding my motorcycle when its cold or raining..

PS i know it was stupid not using the spring compressors i dont recommend anyone does this. i have a little trick that works if you are in a bind but it definitely is safer to use compressors. the spring didnt shoot out it was securely fastened to the strut tube my strut mount did pop a little more than i expected.

It could be so many things

Look at strut rod bushings, also check the cross member for cracks, 700's are prone to this problem
