So, I have a free motor in Bella Coola. I just looked on a map, allowing even a 10-15% factor for the roads, it's as far as Winnipeg

So, anyone know of any BC guys with a truck that may be going some time over the next couple months?

Alternately, if I can get it to Kitimat, I can have it brought here.

Last alternate would be renting something, preferably awd, but more importantly soemthign that can contain a load like. Not just contain but be loaded. This is going to require a engine hoist most likely. I think that might be I'm forced to go van or pick up.

Raz has a link to a rental outlet on his website. Last time I rented a car was maybe 6-8 years ago. Does anyone go to those places by nature of thier work? Last thing I got was a Jetta Diesel, and it was great- cheap to run, and secure handling, but I don't think it would be a good candidate for a ~ 550 lbs load, even if I could get it in.
I think with a OSB baseplate and a couple Princess Auto tarps, plus some top quality garbage bags, it could be done with a minivan or *maybe* a small station wagon. I'd be willing to go Compact truck, but really I am not comfortable with the dynamics or mileage of a full size.

Thoughts?

Ian

I'm thinking you're going to have trouble finding a mini pickup, or even a cargo minivan. I could be wrong. I'm not sure what you're afraid of with a fullsize, but that's the way I'd go.

We use Driving Force with work. They have a Toyota Sienna minivan for $69.99 per day with unlimited mileage. Keeping it clean would be the trick, as would properly securing it so that if you go off roading your engine doesn't try to kill you. Both are reasons why I'd choose a pickemup, as well as the whole 4x4 thing.

Driving force, you need your own insurance.

Enterprise rents cargo vans and pickup trucks (1500 Hemis and Dakotas I think)

If you can wait till after December 9th, I can go out and get the engine for you... Just pay me a bit to go do it and I'll throw it in something (the volvo mayhaps? :))

Hey Ian,

Try contacting my dad. He worked in Bella Coola for quite a few years, and still has some contacts there. He may be able to help you out.

The hill into BellaCoola is INTENSE. It was 18% grade last time my dad was there. And gravel.

And with the weather they have been having lately, I can only imagine it is scary.

If you want PM me and I'll give you my dads phone number. I'll let him know you'll be calling

Jordan

you maybe well advised to have a set of tire chains and know how
to use them regardless of what vehicle you decide to use

ahem, there seems to be a trend here. Thus does the seriousness of the situation is beginning to sink in.

The last thing I need is to be driving something like this in winter:

I will keep Raz's offer in mind and I'll PM Jordan. And I'll think on this.
